Arrow (S3E13) - "Canaries" - 2/11/15
VERTIGO (GUEST STAR PETER STORMARE) RETURNS AND PITS CANARY AGAINST BLACK CANARY - Oliver (Stephen Amell) is thrown by the changes within Team Arrow. He's used to calling the shots but sees that the team has evolved in his absence and tensions quickly escalate in the lair. Oliver is furious that Laurel (Katie Cassidy) has been going out as the Black Canary and tells her to stop risking her life, but when Vertigo (guest star Peter Stormare) hits the streets again, Laurel goes against Oliver's wishes and tracks down Vertigo who hits her with a full dose of the drug. Laurel's biggest fears revolve around her sister Sara (guest star Caity Lotz) so the Vertigo causes her to hallucinate an epic fight between Canary and Black Canary. Meanwhile, Chase (guest star Austin Butler) surprises Thea (Willa Holland), and Roy (Colton Haynes) warns Thea to stay away from Malcolm (John Barrowman). Michael Schultz directed the episode written by Jake Coburn & Emilia Ortega Aldrich (#313). Original airdate 2/11/2015.

I'm sure watching Sara Canary beat up Laurel Canary pleased some people.
I like that Thea was just completely fine with Oliver being the Arrow. It would have been tedious if she hadn't been.

I find it funny that every time Oliver and the gang suit up that the first thing he does is grab his bow. I like to think he keeps it in one hand or the other while he gets ready.
And yes I did enjoy seeing Sara kick Laurel's ass.
If Canary's identity was to become known to the public, would every case she worked as an ADA be reopened?

Good episode to separate the "Canaries". At the same time, I really miss Caity Lotz. I hope there are future episodes with her in flashbacks. Glad Oliver was put in his place for barking orders. It gets a little annoying at times watching him boss everyone around. I'm ready for some Deathstroke once again.

Every time Laurel does something stupid as Black Canary, I say " Good job Laurel." Got to say it a bunch of times tonight. And yes, it just made me miss Sara all over again.
I like Thea being in the fold.
I wonder if there will ever be an explanation about how Oliver survived his fight. Probably not.

I thought this was probably the best episode of the season. Yes I liked seeing Sara beat up Laurel and her police baton but it made me miss Sara even more. Oliver taking Laurel at the end didn't make much sense though, and I'm still waiting for him to try and train her so she doesn't get killed. Thea being in the fold is cool and I'm sure we'll get to see her suit up soon. But I didn't get why she suddenly hated Malcolm after being perfectly OK spending the last six months with him.

The Weapon X program only gave Wolverine the adamantium skeleton. Wolverine was born with the healing factor. It's one of his two mutant powers (the other mutant power being bone claws).

You know what is funny about this episode. There is a moment where I thought Lance would die from shock after Laurel told him the truth. For some reason I found that really funny if it turned out she was right all along.

It really does feel like the show runner isn't running much of a show these days and it's just episodes tied together with a very very loose theme/idea. Having Speedy turn on Malcom like that was stupid. Sure, it wasn't what we were expecting, but it was still foolish and a lot of this stuff just doesn't feel like it lines up very well.
And yeah, Laurel is, as hard as they try, just not happening. Come on, realize that and have Sara come back from the dead through the power of will power and herbs. It worked for Ollie.

It has already been decided. I think if they had found a suitable alternative for Laurel (notice how Sara shouted out her full Dinah Laurel Lance name in battle) other than being Black Canary, they would have taken it. But the character had floundered on Arrow for over a season. At least now her presence on the show makes more sense.
I would probably show Oliver going out on his own as Green Arrow more than they have been doing this season. We get a lot of fight scenes now with both Arsenal and Arrow fighting side by side. It gets a little chaotic, the action goes all over the place.
I was surprised to see Sara back, honestly. Though it did make for a cool storyline with Laurel suffering from the Vertigo effect.

I'm okay with how they're developing Laurel into Black Canary. She's been getting her butt handed to her often, but she's slowly improving. She's getting by on determination more than skill. Many viewers had feared she'd turn into a kick-ass masked hero overnight, but that hasn't happened.
I think the big problem is that Arrow fans turned on Laurel because of how pathetic her character was last season. Laurel has always been a terrible character right from the beginning of season 1. The actress is just plain bad, one of the worst actresses ever. She couldn't act her way out of paper bag. Her facial expression never changes. Happy, sad, surprised, whatever emotion she always acts them all the same. I seriously wish she would have died at the end of season 1 instead of Tommy.

Clone Oliver will renounce his name and go around calling himself...the Green Arrow. His new costume will look strangely similar to the Golden Age Green Arrow.
Clone Oliver will have fallen in love with Laurel and original Oliver ends up with Felicity. Things get very confusing for Roy.
Producers, feel free to crib any or all of this storyline.
