In a decade almost every network will have comic book properties from Marvel and DC running around. It's only a matter of time until HBO gets in the game.
I agree HBO will likely have something in the future, but not sure the genre will have the same legs you do. In fact, I think everything has become so serialized that the pendulum is likely to swing back to stand alone episodic shows which procedurals rule.

Have little to no interest in this spinoff.

I know some other shows have had the same actor guest star a few times and played a different character (Law & Order tends to do it) but those are 1 episode guest stars and a few seasons between appearances. Often these guests are not well known so easily not remembered. So unless you are super into the shows' nitty gritty, most viewers won't even realize the same person is back in a different role. I cannot see that with Caity Lotz. She was a major character in a whole season of Arrow. Even casual viewers will recognize her. Having her be someone else will just take viewers out of the episode when they have to keep reminding themselves she is different. Just can't see the producers doing that.

Garrett Dillahunt played like 2 separate characters on Deadwood and pulled it off so Lotz could play someone else.

The two likeliest explanations are that Hunter would be a cheaper character for television since Booster's powers are heavy with tech and needed FX; the other is that DC has been shopping a Blue & Gold show on its own.

Blue & Gold could have the buddy cop template of the superhero genre, a perfect fit for television. Blue Beetle and Booster Gold fight crime together in a lighthearted series.

^ Now that is how you make a promo. I wish the DC movie side was having that much fun.

I didn't expect so many characters in that promo, which is well done.

According to Moviepilot, John Wesley Ship leaked the name of the spinoff series, which says much about its nature. 13 episodes have been ordered with no pilot.

I would doubt they are using Darkseid. That's a movie villain. They could do someone like that, but not him. He's pretty much the pinnacle of bad guys for the DC universe outside of Brainiac and the Joker.

Wasn't Darkseid on Smallville? Who says they have to save him for film? They are keeping tv and film separate anyway so it doesn't really matter. If they can have two Flash's they can have two Darkseids.

Legends is a weak title. They should have called it Brave and the Bold or even something like DC Showcase. These guys aren't legends.

Because having him on Smallville on TV years ago is different than it is now. There are connected movies in the pipe for DC. Darkseid is one of the most powerful villains in DC. Makes the most sense to keep him exclusive to the movies since he would pose the most threat to the world. Plus, it would be DC's counter to Thanos, who is a similar character in the Marvel universe.

Sort of like how we'll never see Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman on any of the DC shows.

But Darkseid isn't even going to be the main villain for the JL movie. That will apparently be Brainiac. And they already used Darkseid in the animated movies (most recently in Justice League: War) so he's up for grabs.

I know he's not in this movie, but let's take a bet on who is the villain of the JL movie. I'd be willing to bet a fair amount of money it is Darkseid.

And the animated movies are their own entity, not connected to the shows or the movies, so that's a different beast altogether.

All I'm saying is that if they are not letting certain characters on the TV shows (Bats/Supes/hell even Blue Beetle) they are certainly keeping their best villains for the movie. Sort of like how we'll never see Ultron or Loki on Agents of Shield. Just not going to happen.

Darkseid was a magic cloud on Smallville. As F4 and Green Lantern taught us, never have your main villains be clouds.

A while back it was announced that the villain for JL (not Dawn of Justice) is Brainiac. They're saving Darkseid for down the road.

If it were truly Legends, then Darkseid should be the villain.

I don't think they're going to call it Legends.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2402137/

While shows sometimes reuse names of shows in the past, they don't typically use the same name as one currently on the air, especially on a sister network (well, half-sister anyway)

Smallville at least had the excuse it was a CW television show with no budget. The movies were the result of lazy studio planning.

I think that is just a working title, it almost certainly won't hit the air with that name. I have a feeling we are going to get Justice League International.
