Ugh. This episode was painfully contrived, even by Good Wife standards. Good thing the dialog/acting is still solid.

Yeah, that was bad. That whole kitchen scene was cringe worthy. This show usually does a great job with the ripped from the headlines stuff, but this one really fell flat. Very weird, tonally. Usually The Good Wife doesn't take itself too seriously, but they tried to go serious here with the Ferguson thing and failed miserably. And the whole side-plot with Neill Gross and his divorce settlement couldn't have felt more disconnected and out of place from the other stories. Why was it even in this episode? Beyond that they never sold the scope of the cop shooting and the way they tried to shoehorn in the mother with one scene and a *single line*, it was all very strange. Like they were trying to do great reverence to this topic but at the same time it was treated as an afterthought.

I did like that they answered what I've been asking for a while; with Castro out of the race, why is Alicia still running? Though her whole thing with Diane was contrived as well. What was the urgency in asking David Lee to join their firm before running it by Alicia?

I think the idea was getting David to join their firm and quid pro quo, accepting the $15 million settlement, allowing FA to retain Gross as a client. Not sure if that actually happened because they don't show it (again, why was this story even in this episode?), but that was the implication at least.

it's so pathetic that the new firm is slowly taking back the leadership of the old firm

If that's what they were getting at, then David would (or should) be disbarred for it. I couldn't figure out how getting David to join the firm would keep Neil Gross as a client - David would be conflicted out of any representation of Gross, since he represents the wife.

Yeah, that's true, maybe he dropped the wife as a client? Otherwise I think they've established David Lee was quite the producer at Lockhart Gardner with his divorce practice, so maybe the idea was his clients would make up for losing Gross, who was Florrick Agos' biggest client.

That would make more sense.
