It sounds like a segment from a Treehouse of horror episode.

Remember they had a strange preview for this episode at the end of the Christmas episode.

Have Kang & Kodos even appeared outside of the Halloween episodes?

Yes, several times...most recently in the Futurama crossover.

Re: The Simpsons (S26E10)- "The Man Who Came to Be Dinner"- 1/4/2015

While I'd have been upset about Kang and Kodos appearing in a regular episode during the 90's or early 2000's, I now have trouble justifying such a reaction.

For me, watching The Simpsons has been a life time of readjusting timelines and imagining alternate universes (Homer went to high school in the 70's and the 90's, 10 year old Bart has had how many Christmases?).

Is Kang and Kodos going to wreck the tone of the show any more than Mulder and Scully showing up? Or God? Or even Lady Gaga?

I've been enjoying the show the last year and look forward to seeing how this episode plays out.

Yes, but the only canon episode they've appeared in os "The Springfield Files", as part of the alien lineup.

The other episodes, "Behind the Laughter" and "Gump Roast", are considered non-canon.

I like the homage to Star Trek in the credits and the joke about Disney and Star Wars but this episode seemed off.

I loved all the theme park stuff, but yeah, when they were on the alien planet the story got very muddled. It often felt like scenes had been cut.

The Star Trek freeze frames at the end were all gold.

Decent enough episode, but yeah, that first five minutes at Disneyland, and the Trek frames were pure gold, especially the one with Burns.

The first segment spoofing Disneyland was great, though derivative of earlier classic episodes. I also liked the Star Trek homage in the credits. The Kang and Kodos segment wasn't that funny.

Agree the opening theme park stuff and closing credits were great. The stuff in the middle, not so much.

From someone who hasn't regularly enjoyed the Simpsons since Season 11 (and tuned out around Season 13), I liked this episode. The Kang & Kodos stuff was weak but I still laughed throughout the episode.

I don't think that was a parody of that specific event.

Never have been to Disneyland but getting into DWorld Magic Kingdom seems to take forever sometimes.
It can take 30 minutes or more from car to the Tram then to a monorail and actually setting foot inside MK.

That was absolutely a parody of the iconic image of the fall of Saigon.

Didn't pick up on the Saigon reference. I did like that the alien zoo used the language from Futurama

you're fooling yourself if it wasn't shooting to be a fall of Saigon reference. The first half of the episode was funny but it lost me in the second zoo half.

The Disneyland parody was great. The space/zoo stuff felt completely out of place and a little too odd for a normal episode. It almost felt like the writers had an idea for a Treehouse of Horror segment but couldn't knock the story down to fit it into one of those episodes.

I loved the jab at mickey mouse and Disney in general that they sneaked in when one of the mascots says (and I'm paraphrasing here) 'our cartoons weren't really all that great, they were just first.'

Universal Orlando Launched Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl ride last year in the Simpsons Land:
For Size
Spoiler:

We all know how long it takes them to produce a new episode - so maybe this was the episode that was in conjunction with the ride launch? Also could explain the "theme park" reference in the show and the dig at Disney.

It's funny because it's true. A lot of their classic animated shorts aren't that funny, unlike the Tex Avery stuff.

I didn't comment on this episode yet but I liked it quite a bit. I agree the opening stuff at Dizzneeland and the homage to the Star Trek credits at the end were the best bits but I liked the stuff with Kang and Kodos too. It definitely didn't feel like a normal episode but I kind of liked that it shook things up a bit and was just a random episode.
