2016 Summer Olympics coverage on NBC
January First, 2015, and I just saw a promo for NBC's coverage of the Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro in 2016.
That's 18 months from now.
Posted it here because it is too cold for me to stand outside and scream about it like a lunatic.
Thanks. Happy New Year.

... and my local Walmart is just leaving their Christmas aisles as-is for next season.
Preposterous, I know.

So how much tape delayed coverage will we have this time? NBC has shown they prefer that to live broadcasts they can't control and edit.

You'll probably get a lot of the marquee stuff (T/F, swimming, gymnastics) live this time simply because of the friendly time zone, though I'm sure the west coast will get the dreaded tape delay. I would also expect a lot of the USA team events to be broadcast live on NBCSN.

Is it sad that the only Olympic event I get excited about watching is Curling?

I wonder if they're going to have any 4k broadcasts? They'll almost certainly have 4k cameras at some events this time around, but as far as broadcasting them, that's anyone's guess...

I never understood why when showing tape delayed sports, why couldn't they plan ahead and edit each event into 30 minute blocks like regular shows? I would love to look at the guide on my DVR and record the events that I am interested in. They could edit the 30 minute block to include background on each athlete, preliminary races, semis and finals all at once. I get that they think they can string you along to watching 3 or 4 hours each night, but it doesn't work in my case. I hate looking at the guide and it's one giant block of time listing a bunch of random events.

I'm not looking forward to more of NBC's lousy tape-delayed TV coverage and wonky "live" web broadcasts. Their Sochi coverage was a little better than London, but not by much.

The live web broadcasts are terrible, because virtually everyone watches for the five minutes they need to watch, crashing the servers. It was painful to follow Michael Phelps' record-setting wins.
