Re: Sons of Anarchy (S7E12) - "Red Rose" - 12/2/14
The problem with both of them was the story got so ridiculous and twisted that they both had to die. Clay should have been dead about 50 times over - the scene in the truck with Tara reciting just half of Clay's sins to Nero (after Clay was killed) was almost comedic in nature. No sack (Opie) had the club pres accidentally whack his wife while meaning to kill him, then took a shot at Clay and then kind of moved on from it? Sutter tried to make things too complex and painted himself into a corner.
For me the true losses were the early ones:
- half sack: the prospect progression into a possible member was a different part of the club dynamics (beyond a big guy eating large bowls of cereal)
- Hale: He was kind of the one moral compass and was the non-club town perspective. He was also an insider from the town so he still had some pull to folks like Tara and even Jax as opposed to the sheriff who comes into town and is bought off after the first meeting, because Sutter needs to speed things along this season
I think both actors asked out so I'm not trying to blame Sutter, but after those two losses I think things started to turn.,,, and then they went to Ireland not too long after

Re: Sons of Anarchy (S7E12) - "Red Rose" - 12/2/14
I've pretty much been hate watching this for a few seasons now mostly because I was beyond the point of no return. What I hate the most about this year (and last year with Clay) is that Sutter turns some of these characters into moustache twirling super villains but then instead of letting us cheer their well deserved death, he tries to instill some dollar store humanity into them, right before the big moment, robbing the audience of the satisfaction. I mean the death of Clay should have been a huge fist pumping moment and it wasn't. Same with the Gemma situation - she should have killed herself or had Jax kill her in a fit of rage...not a tender moment in a garden. At least she didn't sing her own eulogy song.
So Jax resigns himself to getting killed by the club on the condition that they allow all races into the club (presumably) - what the fuck! That's what this whole thing has been building to? Jesus christ, if I had known it'd end up like this, I would have quit when the whole Ireland thing dragged on forever.

It is hard to pay attention to this show. I just caught Jax's leg thing for the first time this episode. How long has it been going on?

Man, this episode ran close to 2 hours without the Post show. An episode of this series doesn't need to be feature film length.
But, I don't hate watch it like most here and constantly complain every week. Sons has been one of my favorite FX shows of all-time. I have all 6 seasons at home on BD and will eventually get 7 will it comes out next year.
Did anyone watch the complete post show afterwards? For the 2nd straight week it ran over the allotted time. My DVR recording cut off when Kevin Ryder was about to read a social media questions. The post show compared to Talking Dead feels really cheap and unorganized. Hell, their producer can't keep it running to time either.
Anyways, since so many people have died on this show, I think the deaths of Juice, Gemma weren't that surprising. I'm just not shocked or fazed with the deaths on this show anymore. I was a little surprised that Jax fired away at Unser without hesitation when he refused to leave.
My prediction for the finale, Jax will die in a blaze of glory, we'll get a 20 year time jump and then we'll see Abel and Thomas put on the Sons of Anarchy jackets, fade to black.
I'm sure we'll get a 2 1/2 hour finale next week with another 75 or so minutes for the post show.

I think that is what everyone is expecting...

Still enjoy the show, but it has dipped drastically in quality.
Jax dropped an exaggerated "Jesus Christ!" in this episode, and I swear Hunnam was stifling a laugh.

I thought for sure that when Unser got killed that he'd immediately wake up in the sheriff's office in Deadwood telling Calamity Jane about this terrible, long and drawn out futuristic nightmare he just suffered through.

This show was an exercise in what could have been. I think Sutter got way too much control of the series, which is why it went horribly off course. As someone noted above, characters became mustache twirling villains on the drop of a dime. Add in the fact that there were plots that made zero sense in the grand scheme of things and things that dragged too long, this could have been an excellent 5 season show. But alas, here we are begging for it to be over.

My local best buy has the series set on the shelf already so I'd watch out for finale spoilers

your mother stabbed me in the head, with a GIANT FUCKING FORK
bobby Elvis had his eye gauged out with a grapefruit spoon. seriously
Able started cutting himself with a dinner fork. noticing a theme?
Abel also started talking and acting like a young asylum committed Michael Meyers, and had these dead eyes. like a doll's eyes.
juice kept getting ass raped, by, get this, Marilyn Manson and a bunch of non rug pissing chinamen.
Courtney love was Abel's school teacher.
gemma went to a diner and that annoying girl from Glee was the waitress, and she didn't even sing. and i didn't understand why she was there.
you shot Unser, and didn't even stop talking. with his corpse laying at your feet. like it was the most casual thing. gemma didnt even flinch a little at this guy who she has known her entire life getting killed by her son.
you shot your mother, and brought her into a field of roses, and she dropped to her knees and started singing a Negro spiritual.
I swear to god, baby was that weed we smoked laced with opium?

Careful of spoilers as the details of the show's ending have been leaked. Apparently they made some companion book, “Sons of Anarchy: The Official Collector’s Edition,” which was shipped out early.

FAN APOLOGY
It has been brought to my attention that our SOA Collector's Edition Book has been sent out a week early by some distributors and book outlets. This book contains details about the final episode of the series. This, my friends is a storyteller's worst nightmare. I wanted this book to be a compliment to the show. It contains personal messages and photos from the cast, in-depth behind the scenes information and detailed breakdown of episodes. It's a smart, well-conceived book that I was very excited for the fans to have. AFTER the motherfucking finale. There are a thousand fucking people I can blame. And I assure you, by the time I am done, my fucking basket will be filled with heads of incompetent ****s. But as far as the fans go, the burden is on me. I fucked up. It was my idea for the book, so ultimately, I am to blame. So if you received a book, I apologize. I ask that you not share your wrath or pain or opinion in social media so as to not spoil the experience of others. There is no excuse for utter ineptitude. It pains me that this will be the parting memory of some fans. I hope you all tune in for the finale. It plays much better than it reads.
Sincerely
ks

It's like a tradition with FX shows. I remember when the entire last season of The Shield was broadcasted overseas, recorded, and shared online before it was aired here. That really hurt the show's last season IMO.
