Re: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (S2E04) -- "Face My Enemy" -- 10/14/14

Another really good episode.

After that first 10 or 12 episodes last season it became one of the most fun and entertaining shows on TV, and it only got better as the season went on. This season picked up where they left off quality-wise, and on occasion they may even be topping the level they reached by the end of last season.

Coulson seems pretty prepared for his demise, but you know they'll find a way to keep him around.

Is it me or are there WAYYYY too many commercials and commercial breaks.

Episode was focused on a small 'item' and that item only. Used to seeing a few other 'things' going on so a bit different this week. I liked it like that. I hope Fitz stays as he is for a while. I find him more likable this way for some reason.
Next weeks looks to focus on a couple different things and looks pretty action packed.

My damn DVR cut off part of the way through. Alas the days of rerunning episodes more than once a week are over, but now there's ABC.com to replace it, just have to figure it when it goes up.

May vs May was cool. Dug the last scene with flower dress lady getting low jacked. Really liked everything about this episode. Good tie in with captain america through the tech being used.

Great episode. May vs May was hot and badass. I loved that drop kick even though it was obviously a stunt woman.

Didn't realize that Coulson's situation was that grim that he's considering assisted suicide from May.

Fun episode. Fitz got to shine a bit but they have to find more for Tripp to do.

Why isn't Skye experiencing any of the issues that Coulson is concerned about in himself?

Because he was treated several months before she was. Plus there's some question as to who or what she really is...

exactly...which can also ground a little bit in reality her rapid ascension to field agent.

Another solid episode. A bit of comedy, pathos, and a completely kicka$$ fight scene.

No kidding, I'll be damned. I guess I should've made the connection when I saw the last name, Hollywood is a small world. I guess they used him because of the big fight set piece. Incidentally, I had no idea MKL season two was up, and it had been there for at least a year now.

Given events at the end and in the previews

Spoiler:
it would be cool to see Raina run out of options and end up joining the team

Can't believe Ming Na-Wen is 51 ! She and Gregg had fun with this episode; their chemistry brought it a nice sense of froth. Wonder how they did that one-take face-change, that was an impressive effect. ABC clearly decided to actually give this show a bit of a budget this season. The Mission: Impossible masks from HYDRA were kind of a cool twist, I guess what level of sci-fi tech they use and the accompanying suspension of disbelief varies from episode to episode. I actually thought it was Talbot at first, guess I was the slow one. Thought he might've gone dirty and started working with HYDRA. There're a few shades of 24 in the espionage stuff, especially the torture scene, which mercifully spared is the gory details. Blatant product placement with the phone, but hey, they have to pay for a multimillion dollar franchise somehow. May is all kinds of badass. The digital cinematography on the plane as the systems all blew was nicely simple with the color-coding. I like what they're doing with Fitz, the show definitely has an actual sense of direction this year, I wonder what future MCU stuff it'll tie into? That fight scene was badass, it's easy to see what they brought the MK guy to direct this episode. Must've been an FX nightmare even with the host doubles and not showing the faces. A top-screw organization continues to put their logo on things : rolleyes:. Nice that Coulson was one of those rare TV characters who's actually smart enough to figure out he's being conned instead of just the audience. Wonder if the alien writing will somehow tie into GOG?

I thought it was Talbot too. I was glad when it turned out not to be him.

Her acquisition of considerable skill over such a short time asks for some suspension of disbelief, but they didn't have much choice to promote her, they're spread so thinly they need whatever they can get.

OK, this is nitpicking, but did anyone else notice that when Fitz and (imaginary) Simmons said the word "garage", they both used the American pronunciation of "garahhge" instead of the English "garridge"?

I also wondered if Coulson would have noticed it wasn't really May, because the imitation May had much smaller boobs and couldn't fill out the dress.

As much as a enjoyed the episode, there is just not getting around that the body types of the two women were not even close. The body of the woman wearing the mask was dramatically different, essntially chunky compared to May. Really took me out of what they were trying to do in that scene. These things work far better when they are somewhat believable.

I also hope we get some answers to what the alien writings are soon or that storyline will drag down what is otherwise a very enhyable season.

They need to pare down this cast, I expect a bloodbath for the November sweeps period to thin the herd.

This was a cute episode since we saw May in a different kind of role.

May vs May was pretty enjoyable, if not a bit predictable. I'm curious how the Coulson thing plays out and hope it doesn't drag all season.

setting off the laser grid was foolish. What if it had done more than just an alarm?

I agree - what if a door came down locking the room off or trapping them in.

I liked this episode and thought May looked good too.

Agree about the laser grid, but that was a very stereotypically Whedon moment.
