Jane the Virgin (The CW) - Series Thread

Didn't see this one posted, so I thought I'd add it. What a GREAT premiere! This show is like a parody of a Mexican soap opera. Strong acting, funny storyline and feels fresh. Don't know if it'll last, but I'm hoping so. Anyone else catch it?

Yeah, this is based on a Venezuelan telenovela from 12 years ago, it ran for about 150 episodes.

Cute episode, will tune in again.

I really loved it, exactly the kind of light show I need more of in my viewing lineup.

I didn't know what to expect with this show and was pleasantly surprised. Really liked the lead, and her mother's reaction to her being pregnant made me .

OMG, I loved this. This wasn't really on my must see list, but I read a lot of positive reviews and checked it out. I laughed so much, especially when Jane's Mom thought the pregnancy was a miracle

The grandmother who is also on Switched at Birth was also hilarious, especially her reaction to the pregnancy.

I like the lead. She's very charming and cute.

 at the Telenovela star being Jane's father. Total parody of a Mexican soap opera.

Having the thick Spanish accented narrator was a cool touch.

Just watched episode 2. LOL!

OK, seeing
Spoiler:
Zaz (sp?) impaled at the end was HILARIOUS.
And the relationship with the doctor's lover...too much! This show is great. Totally roped me in.

Enjoying the narrator and on-screen type, too. It's as much part of the show as the characters.

And: "I have too many phones. The best way to reach me is Twitter."

 at Zaz getting impaled. They're not holding back on the crazy telenovela plots. I'm glad I checked out this show.

Another good one. Gina Rodriguez is really great in this.

Fun mix of crazy plots and regular plotting.

El President!
lol

Picked up for a full season according to Deadline.

Love it!! Last night's episode was hilarious.

Ratings for the second episode were up from the premiere, and the show beat its lead-in

I was  with the whole Milkshake thing and Jane calling the baby a Milkshake.

 at the ending when Zaz got impaled.

I was surprised to see the actress playing Petra's Mom was Priscilla Barnes from Three's Company. Man, she used to be hot, but that was 30 years ago. I wonder what was up with the burn marks on her face.

The over the top Spanish narrator is awesome and I love the typed text.

If you're reading this and haven't seen this show yet, check it out, especially if you were a fan of a show like Ugly Betty.

WHAT? That was Priscilla Barnes?! Wow, I used to think she was all that and then some...

I think her character
Spoiler:
is the villain Jane's boyfriend is after, but has supposedly "gone underground" for a year. Something happened, she got burned and put in a wheelchair and that's why she's disappeared from the action...or it's a front to hide in public. But just my theory. :)

This show is a nice surprise.

Two of the women on this are drop dead gorgeous. The blonde, Petra and the red head who was on that D&D type show. Sorry I don't know the names.

Re: Jane the Virgin (CW) - Series Thread

Another good episode last night. Yeeps, they're kinda pushing the broadcast standard for lesbian scenes. Don't think I've seen scenes like this on network TV before.

LOL at seeing Jane's heart beat. Though I thought it was a given she wouldn't actually sleep with her fiance. With the show's title, I'm sure they're going to keep her considering her flower for as long as possible...

Fist of Doom 10-28-14 06:24 PM

 at the petals falling off the flowers when Jane was in bed with Michael. Jane's father cracks me up every time he shows up.

She's more "cute" than drop dead gorgeous, but I think Jane is easily the most attractive woman on the show.

whotony 10-28-14 11:29 PM

Re: Jane the Virgin (CW) - Series Thread

Jane might not be in the 3 or 4 best looking on the show.
Jane's coworkers look great too.

@Juryduty, what did you see in a lesbianism scene that is pushing it for tv?

Is Anna Ortiz the new America Ferrera?

Check out this movie and I think it is playing on the HBO channels. Maybe she got discovered after doing this movie.

Huh???

Ana Ortiz is on Devious Maids.

Jane is played by Gina Rodriguez.

Gina Rodriguez sorry but Anna Ortiz was in that movie too and played her sister.

 at Petra and her mother with the kidnapped guy.

That head nun is a bitch. She's always chiding Jane, but feels just fine exploiting her.

Rogelio just cracks me up..."I've had too much normal people wine"

So the Golden Globes did one thing right, it put this show on my DVR, and we finally caught up, so I'm looking forward to new episodes now, and maybe a heel turn this next episode.

On a side note, they don't exactly make it easy to catch up. I think they had a marathon but I only caught the first couple of episodes; Hulu only has the first five episodes and the latest one.

I agree. I tried to get a friend hooked a few weeks ago and even the CW website only has 5 episodes. Pretty irritating considering this show REALLY builds one episode upon another, like a soap opera.

LOL even the narrator at the beginning of last night's episode basically gave up during the recap. :P

I just got caught up with the last 3 episodes.

My reaction to the end of last night's episode:

-eek- WTF???

Zaz is still alive? Man, this really is a Telenovella.

Rogelio absolutely cracks me up on this show. I love his interactions with Jane. Especially the scenes with her working as a writer on his show and then when he was killed off.

 at how Rose killed Emilio. That was a little over the top.

I am conflicted

Is Gina Rodriguez hot or not? Sometimes yes and other times no.

Re: Jane the Virgin (CW) - Series Thread

It's so weird... I feel as if most "reveals" they have are really underwhelming (like why Zaz was back, or Rose's reveal, or even Rogelio's "firing"), but the cast is what really makes this show enjoyable.

DJariya 05-18-15 11:40 PM

Re: Jane the Virgin (CW) - Series Thread

Just watched the season finale.

Wow, a shit load of crazy twists.

The extra sperm sample from Rafael, which Petra took.

and then Jane's Mom and Rogelio get married.

and then poor Mateo gets kidnapped. Any theories on who was the kidnapper?

I have no clue who it might be. Wasn't sure how they would continue things into season 2, but it seems like they have a good blue print.

I know this show isn't really geared towards the comic and sci-fi nerds of this forum, but I thought this was a pretty good 1st season. Definitely a much lighter Spanish telenovela parody or sorts.

Jadzia 05-19-15 08:09 AM

Re: Jane the Virgin (CW) - Series Thread

The finale left a bad taste in my mouth. I know it is supposed to be a soap opera, but taking a newborn baby from his mama just went too damn far for me. For an otherwise fun show, that was just too horrific.

JuryDuty 06-08-15 09:02 AM

Re: Jane the Virgin (CW) - Series Thread

Also, the reveal that Sin Rostero now has a different face...

I agree, Jadzia, the ending was a bit horrific for such a light show. I didn't see that coming at all. Don't know how they're going to keep it light after that. Then again, isn't that another play on the telenovela--ending the season with a huge cliffhanger?

22 episode season.

Re: Jane the Virgin (The CW) - Series Thread

Here in Canada, the show wasn't picked up by a Canadian network, therefore, if you don't have the CW American station (which I don't), is only available in a Canadian streaming service called "Shomi". Thankfully, I have it but most Canadians don't subscribe to it unless they have Rogers as a provider and they have it bundled like I do.

Jadzia 10-12-15 10:44 AM

Re: Jane the Virgin (The CW) - Series Thread

I hope they can quickly resolve the last season cliffhanger tonight. I do not want to watch a season of a postpartum mother trying to locate her baby.
