Fixing PhantomStranger's post is a bit much.

I like it. I would also like Paul Harvey's "And now you know... the rest of the story..." on my tombstone.

Man, this is sad news. I'm just the right age for her to have been part of "my" SNL, and I think she was one of the all-time great utility players in SNL history. Here she is in one of my favorite Jan Hooks moments -- her part in this skit was minor, but it cracks me up every time.

I hope they scatter her ashes in the basement of the Alamo.

Let's not forget this immortal role of hers:

Sad news. She was also the only bright spot in the later years of Designing Women when Delta Burke left and they cast Julia Duffy and Jan Hooks. And yes, her role in Pee Wee's Big Adventure is a classic.

RIP

Indeed, sad to hear. She really was a terrific comic actress, and a big part of what I believe (like many others here) was the "second golden era" of SNL, and my personal favorite era of the show.

Ouch

Fey used her stage time at Elle's Women in Hollywood Awards Monday night to pay tribute to the late "Saturday Night Live" star Jan Hooks, who passed away on Oct. 9 at age 57, and took a surprising dig at "Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo" star Rob Schneider in the process.

Fey cast Hooks to play Jane Krakowski's mother on "30 Rock," and said that the comedian was underappreciated in Hollywood.

Fey cast Hooks to play Jane Krakowski's mother on "30 Rock," and said that the comedian was underappreciated in Hollywood.

"It made me sad when she passed, and it made me mad at the time how available she was," Fey added. “Jan should have had a bigger career. Jan deserved a big movie career. Certainly as big as Rob Schneider's f---ing career. She was a bigger star on 'SNL.'"

Schneider was an "SNL" cast member from 1990 -1994, while Hooks was a cast member from 1986-1994. Schneider went on to land big-screen roles such as in the "Deuce Bigalow" films and "The Hot Chick," co-starring Rachel McAdams, while Hooks found more success in television with guest roles on "The Simpsons," "3rd Rock from the Sun" and later, "30 Rock."

Re: RIP Jan Hooks (SNL)

I'm sure there were reasons why Jan Hooks' career never took off like other SNL alumni, none of which have anything to do with Rob Schneider.

Re: RIP Jan Hooks (SNL)

She wasn't buddies with Adam Sandler like Schneider. Only for Sandler, Schneider would not reached the C level of celebrity and gotten the roles that he did.
