Re: Actor Stephen Collins Admits to Molesting Children
I'm kind of amazed by this news because I just saw Stephen Collins speak at Dragon Con just over a month ago. I even met him, got a photo with him, and chatted with him a bit (we mainly talked about director Robert Wise). He just seemed like a nice smart guy who was very personable.

I remember him mostly from that corny romance movie he did in 1979 with Kathleen Quinlan, "The Promise". I've seen him in other things, but never watch 7th Heaven.

I know a guy who was arrested earlier this year for molesting a girl. It took about 2 years from when the investigation started until he was arrested.

^It has nothing to do with recording a felony vs. a misdemeanor. Correct me if I'm wrong, lawyers, but there are "one-party" states and "two-party" states. In a one-party state, one is permitted to record another without his/her consent. In a two-party state it is actually a felony to record someone without his/her permission.
So, if California is a one-party state, the ex-wife was within her rights to record him. But, I'm wondering, isn't there an expectation of privacy in a therapist's office? So she might be in trouble in that regard.

Anything? Well, uh I guess I, deep down, am feeling a little confused. I mean, suddenly, you get married, and you're supposed to be this entirely different guy. I don't feel different. I mean, take yesterday for example. We were out at the Olive Garden for dinner, which was lovely. And, uh, I happen to look over at a certain point during the meal and see a waitress taking an order, and I found myself wondering what color her underpants might be. Her panties. Uh, odds are they are probably basic white, cotton, underpants. But I sort of think, well, maybe they're silk panties, maybe it's a thong. Maybe it's something really cool that I don't even know about. Then i think she is probably 15. You know, and uh, and I started feeling... what? What, I thought we were in the trust tree in the nest, were we not?

No, if there's something as bad a molestation or murder going on, you can totally record and take that to the cops. I think it was that issue of privacy that probably resulted in her taking to long in bringing it out, but she's totally in the clear.

Are you comparing Faye Grant to the people who were so busy mediating trade disputes that they never even tried to free the slaves on Tatooine? God, your priorities are even more skewed than Wearetheborg.

No, I'm just comparing wearetheborg to Anakin. That's what his statement reminded me of.

Anakin at least had a point -- the Jedi are kinda douchebags -- whereas wearetheborg believes that outing a pedophile is worse than being a pedophile.

Re: Actor Stephen Collins Admits to Molesting Children
What he said is she had evidence and held onto it for money. To expand, I've seen the same stories and he probably believed she had evidence of his crimes (taped admissions) but held on to the evidence in order to use it as leverage in a divorce proceeding. In effect, extortion. Those were the initial "reports" (from gossip sites, let's remember). Subsequent "reporting" clarified that she turned over the tapes but it's the police department that hasn't brought charges for years.
That said, having evidence of a crime and not speaking up (for personal gain) isn't worse than the crime, but it's not pristine, either. That doesn't appear to be that case in this situation at this point.

I don't really understand some of the arguments being made here.
Yes, what he did was worse, but how can it NOT be a crime as well to know that someone is sexual molesting a child (or children) and not reporting for whatever reason...personal gain, helping some cover something up, etc?
It's beyond horrific to think of someone not having a duty to report knowledge of sexual abuse like that and it's not just a moral thing either. It sure seems like it should be criminal to just sit on that knowledge.

There's a little bit of psychological damage in both Collins and Grant's case here.

Apparently there's a lot of that going on in Hollywood - people sitting on information about pedophiles because of financial concerns.

I would be shocked by her actions to cover up a molester but then I remembered she is a Penn State grade
