TV viewers are getting older, faster than the general population
http://www.broadcastingcable.com/new...st-says/133656
Analyst Michael Nathanson of MoffettNathanson Research calculates that the median age of viewers during the 2013-14 TV season has risen by 2.5 years, or 6% to 44.4 years old since the 2009-10 season. He says that over the past five years, TV viewers have aged 5% faster than the average American, with broadcast network viewers getting 7% older to a median of 53.9 years old, and cable network viewers getting 8% older for a media of 40.
The median age of America was 37.2 years old, up 1.9 years over the past decade, according to the U.S. Census. A more recent government report put the median age at 37.6 year old in 2014.
Nathanson notes that live primetime viewing is down 13% since the 2009-10 season, but that viewership among people age 55 and up has been steady.
I would be sweating bullets if I were a television executive. Advertisers hate older people.

"Advertisers hate older people"? Just about all the commercials I've seen recently are for old people.

Wonder where companies will look to advertise to younger people.
I don't even know where to start.
In-game advertising in a video game?
(Pop-up ads on cellphones is most likely a non-starter).

Basically the type of guys that write MBA style "case study" reports that nobody ever reads, and/or they would talk live as a "pundit" or guest on CNBC.
(ie. More entertainment than anything resembling "insider information").

Yeah, I'm not sure why this is newsworthy or even surprising at all. The median age in everything is increasing for a few reasons. People are living longer, and the baby boomer generation is significantly larger than any of the younger generations, and the baby boomers are getting old now.

The most expensive advertising demo is 18-34, thus my advertisers hate older people line. Most people once they've gotten past that stage of life aren't switching brands or trying out many new products.
