Don’t worry citizens, The Tick is back to save the day! Broad-shouldered Patrick Warburton only sported his blue antennae for one season the first go-around, but the critically acclaimed superhero parody is now being revived on Amazon, a source tells PEOPLE. The cult-classic series is based on a comic book by Ben Edlund and was first brought to television as an animated series that enjoyed three seasons of success in the mid 1990s. In early 2002, Fox canceled Warburton's live-action version (which also starred a pre-Lost Nestor Carbonell) after just nine episodes. But no one can stop The Tick from keeping watch over The City. Warburton – who has also appeared on Seinfeld and Rules of Engagement – recently inked a deal with Amazon and Sony to reprise his role, with Edlund producing and writing, according to the source. KEEN! Amazon just sold a subscription.
I've still have a Tick T-shirt that I got from a comic store in the late 90's. I only wear it like twice a year so it's still in pretty good shape. It's the cartoon Tick.

Did Rules of Engagement get cancelled? I thought once CBS renews a Monday night Sitcom, they keep it on their schedule until all the cast members are dead. |

The ancillary characters are likely Sony's IP anyway. Edlund should own the characters who originated in the comics only after all this time, and Sony has likely lost any claim to their rights years ago. Maybe it's time for a third version of the Batman/Wonder Woman supporting parody team?

I personally thought the live-action adaptation of The Tick sucked. I'd rather see a show like Action get a second chance of life than this shit. |

I missed this in August and just noticed that Edlund is an exec producer on Gotham.
So I searched for the tick and found an announcement on fanboysinc. Com? Anyway I liked the show and will keep my prime for another year. Would love to see the Superman parody that was in the comic. |

Amazon has ordered a pilot for a new live-action comedy series take on Ben Edlund's iconic comic book character "The Tick" which Sony Pictures TV is producing. Edlund ("Gotham," "Firefly," "Supernatural") created the 1994 animated series and the 2001 short-lived live-action TV series about the character. He'll return as writer and executive producer alongside Barry Josephson. Griffin Newman ("Vinyl") is set to play Arthur Everest, and Valorie Curry ("Veronica Mars") has been cast as his sister Dot Everest in the pilot which will bring back the muscle-bound, antennae-sporting superhero along with a new host of characters. In this take, The Tick is recovering from a memory loss and re-teams Arthur to fight evil. Patrick Warburton, who played the title character in the 2001 series and was rumored to be returning two years ago when revival rumors sprang up, is NOT expected to be involved in the Amazon pilot. Casting is currently underway for the lead. "Transcendence" helmer Wally Pfister is reportedly in negotiations to direct the project. |

The original pilot was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, with some obvious influence from the crew he worked with on Men in Black. |

For anyone that has never seen it, the animated show was inspired genius. It pretty much set the template for lampooning superheroes and is one of my favorite shows of all time. The live-action series on NBC was a decent, if lesser, incarnation. Warburton was easily the best thing about it.

The costume doesn't look that great in the still but this is a spoof of superheroes. It's not a dealbreaker since the Tick is a comedy.
