Sitcoms peaked with Urkel.
Now I want an Urkel/Alf Odd Couple like team up sitcom. |

Just think 20-25 years ago, I used to watch Family Ties, Cosby, Growing Pains, Who's the Boss, Roseanne, Coach, Cheers, The Wonder Years, Newhart. The only sitcom I watched in the past 5 years was Two and Half Men when Sheen was on. Comedy started to go bad in the late 90's in the whole industry, and I don't think it ever recovered. You just have alot of medicore comedians and writers out there, IMO. On the flip side, TV Drama's have never been better since the rise of Cable TV as we are in a golden age, IMO. |

I wonder what JJ thought of Bossom Buddies? |

CBS's fault, or the popularity of their bukkake at least.

Sometimes speaking the truth hurts and bothers people, that's the problem with America, a lot of people feel the same way I do, but they are afraid to speak there opinion. All because of money and power!!

Re: Why is there not anymore good sitcoms??

Let me give you a hint: Opinion. |
Re: Why is there not anymore good sitcoms??
I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop when OP reveals his "great" idea for a sitcom.

Re: Why is there not anymore good sitcoms??
You know what would be great? A sitcom where Jason Bateman plays a gay man who gets a straight roommate!

Re: Why is there not anymore good sitcoms??
Sorry but it is the truth!! People get ridiculed for getting on gays, and the funny part is gays make up about 2% of the population!
|
Re: Why is there not anymore good sitcoms??
Wow, this thread is fantastic. It's like watching the bar drunk spout off whatever junk comes to his thoughts, with the rest of the patrons playing off of his nonsense.
Good times. |

Re: Why is there not anymore good sitcoms??
It makes a big deal, we give them too much respect!! When they are such a small percent, that's why they try and recruit people like your self and young children in believing that its ok to be gay!! Its just not!!

Why is it that when I click to view our coolest new member's profile (mostly to find other insightful posts), I get: This user has not registered and therefore does not have a profile to view.
In other words, Why is there not anymore profile to view? I sense a conspiracy! |

Re: Why is there not anymore good sitcoms??
Sounds like my father. Hey, I just discovered I'm questioning my political views as told to me by my parents and need direction in my life! Sweet! Teenage rebellion! It's like I'm 15! I'm only a decade plus late!
Anyway, as to the question, it seems that the sitcom world is currently reigned by Chuck Lorre. While I like TBBT, his rather lowbrow style seems to be pretty much the norm for sitcoms now. Eventually, in spite of giving it a shot, I found the irritating vulgarity on Two Broke Girls so unfunny that I simply stopped bothering with it after a few episodes. While I was never into Seinfeld or Friends, they were the sitcoms of the era. In the 2000s, I actually got into Boy Meets World reruns, of all things. Some of the lessons were a little sanctimonious, but the mild surrealism of the humor clicked with me. |
