A battle where I really cared who lived or died.

The Battle of Blackwater filled up an entire ep two years ago?

I don't read the books so I wouldn't know, but I think the Starks that are alive right now are pretty safe, especially Arya. None of the Starks are really any threats to the throne.

You know what's really boring? People who have read the book bitching about how the show is different, or hinting at spoilers every week just to show the world that they can read. Now that's boring.

DaveyJoe nailed it. This was some Battle of Helm's Deep level epicness, in a fucking TV show! What more do you people want? And those who were bored with the storyline in the book who also find the storyline boring in the show... what do you want? You want them to exclude huge plotlines to suit your particular fancy? What silliness.

It wasn't a boring episode. I got really entertained. I don't read the books.

But if you have to rate ever episode of the TV series up until now, this is episode should be one of the last. Was the battle that important? No one important died, etc.

Again, not boring, very well filmed and directed. But not the best GoT.

Tough crowd!

I can't believe some of the comments, I thought it was awesome!

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Watchers on the Wall" -- 6/8/14

I didn't find the episode boring, and it zoomed through pretty quickly but honestly like a few others I don't care that much about what's going on at the Wall. I'm not a book reader, and find all the political stuff, treachery, and the other stuff going on far more interesting; especially because the other characters have been more interesting and exciting. Where Daenerys is getting boring to me because she's just going place to place doing the same thing, this has gotten stale since it's just Jon back and forth from north of the Wall and at the Wall for 4 seasons now. I know that's a bit of hyperbole, but all of this just feels less exciting to me despite the action. I liked the last episode better, and didn't care to spend the whole episode for the battle.

Given the comparisons, I liked the battle at Blackwater far better, but maybe that's because Tyrion is a more interesting character and has more gravitas barking out orders, plus we saw other characters affected during the attack like Joffrey, Cersei, Sansa. I didn't care about the no-name guys in black or Jon's friends. Probably doesn't help that I never understood based on the show why book readers seemed so attached to Ygritte either. Didnt' care that she died at all.

Wow, what bunch of slack jawed cynics up in here. Neil Marshall came through as I knew he would. GIANTS UNLEASHED, BABY!

What a great action packed little episode. Thought the ice blades that just scraped the shit off of the climbers was uber badass!

At least Jon Snow got to tap some ginger ass.

Blackwater was much better than this episode. Like others, I just don't care enough about the storyline. The episode was well made but I can't say it made any lasting impression on me.

This was probably the most important battle so far in the show. You see if the wall falls a hundred thousands wildlings that include wargs and giants are going to ravage the country and right behind them some unknown number of dead people and whites. There is nothing more important than this battle. Battle by combat, dragons, the search for stark girls, none of that matters if the land is filled with monsters.

I think i've mentioned feeling this way before, but I never felt like the show has made that as threatening as it could have; I don't know if the books do a better job of it, but showing a few creepy ice guys and only a handful of episodes actually showing Mance aren't enough to have made me feel any sort of dread or doom from north of the wall.

I come away from the episode more thinking how cool it was to see a giant anchor slice up guys and a giant shoot an arrow, and not much else

Hmmmm well we know the wildlings are running form the white walkers. We know there are a hundred thousand wildlings. We don't know the number of white walkers but we know there are enough of them to put the fear of god in a hundred thousand wildlings otherwise Mace would have just killed them off. We also know Stannis thought it was serious threat because the red woman said so. Jon repeats how important the threat is a number of times. We are shown a army of dead people.

I'm not sure how much more blatant they could be without insulting the intelligence of people. On the other hand I have seen other people post pretty much the same thing you did. Maybe the threat will become more obvious down the road.

Thought the episode was awesome. Even though characters died it seemed more fitting then just the random horrible deaths the series is known for.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Watchers on the Wall" -- 6/8/14

I liked this episode because it didn't have a lot of the usual soap opera crap that the show is sometimes riddled with. Some people might view this lack of character intrigue to be "boring" because it's not what they're used to from this show.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Watchers on the Wall" -- 6/8/14

Haven't read the books. Loved the episode!

Mammoths and giants were very cool! Sorry to see Ygritte go, but better her than Jon Snow.

I was initially disappointed to realize that I wasn't going to get any more story on Tyrion, for this episode, but it was so good, it didn't bother me.

One thing I don't understand, is that since the wall is so important, why are there so few to guard it? Not looking for any spoilers, but it just seems odd.

There was no tits and ass...therefore it was boring.

Seriously, I thought it was great. I admit, I thought an episode focusing solely on the Wall would be a bit of a snoozer, but I was wrong.

I missed my weekly Tyrion fix though

That episode couldn't have bored me more. For one, I have never cared about the Wall characters or storyline, and I won't exactly shed a tear if Jon Snow dies.

Because nobody believes the White Walkers are real and the wildlings are usually too fragmented to be a real threat.

Where was Ghost in the last scene when Jon was heading north of the Wall? I assume he's going with him.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Watchers on the Wall" -- 6/8/14

I don't care much for battle scenes, but they're integral to the show and this one was pretty good. There were instances of sheer bravery, cowardice and straight-out fighting for their lives. Even the hated commander gave a good fight when he realized what a horrible mistake he'd made. It was good to see Jon taking on leadership and letting Ghost get in on the fight. Love the swinging slicer making mincemeat out of the wall-climbers! The giant mammoth was cool.

The sweetest part of the show (with the exception of Jon and Ygritte's goodbye) was centered around Sam and his worries that he'd never get to experience love. He finally got to kiss Gilly!!!... and with that it gave him hope for the future.

Looking forward to next week. It's been so long since I read the books,
Spoiler:
but if I remember correctly, there should be a couple of shockers.

It was really important.

Thousands of years ago, during a long winter, the Others (aka, White Walkers) and other nasty things invaded Westeros from the North. But they haven't been seen for such a long time that they slipped into legend and the people now living in Westeros don't believe they existed. The Wall was built to keep them out.

Now, the Wall mostly exists to keep the Wildlings from moving into Westeros, though a few slip through every now and then.
