Interesting time jump

I was waiting for BBT to show up in Vegas. Loved the way it happened.

Staples = priceless. :lol:

So, is this definitely a one-off series? I would love to see more.

That was so good.

I really enjoyed Chief Oswalt's excitement over the assault rifle cake. "Here Molly, you get the clip."

I love the time jump happening with two episodes to go. I have no idea where they're going with this, and that's great.

Yeah, no clue what the next two episodes will be about, but it's going to be insane.

I have a feeling that Stavros will be a S1 loose end. Maybe he ends up reburying the briefcase and S2 tells the story of the next person to find it.

Besides the time jump, there wasn't much advancement in the plot but I thought this was the funniest episode of the entire series. Lots of funny conversations and character quirks. I think Lester is going to do something stupid and get himself killed by Malvo which would be a fitting end for him.

"ya...well ya know we could guarantee it by ah... going together"

"oh ya? YA"

loved their conversation

Starvos already reburied the briefcase. He did it before finding his son dead after the car crash.

Interesting episode, especially the time skip. Of course they made Molly pregnant for the final couple episodes, need to have another callback to the movie.

Yep, the pregnancy and also a loose tie-in with having her (presumed?) husband be a postal worker, while in the original, the husband designed a postage stamp.

The show made it explicit that they're married.

Okay. I couldn't remember if they outright stated it, but I did remember Molly still referring to herself as Deputy Solverson.

Re: Fargo - (Ep. 108) "The Heap" - 6/3/14

If they are married, the show didn't really say it. I must have missed it.

I just assumed they were.

Re: Fargo - (Ep. 108) "The Heap" - 6/3/14

Yes, they didn't actually say it, but Colin Hanks referred to Molly as "Mom" when talking to his daughter, so that pretty much confirms it. Plus, Midwest values and all...

I liked this episode more than most. I agree it was the funniest one so far. "Don't talk like that ma! Yeah, that's gross!". I liked the jump-forward -- it was sudden, unexpected, made sense thematically and gave us a super-pregnant Molly.

Still, my two problems with the show remain unchanged : 1) It's inferior to the movie, which in and of itself is fine as it's a separate entity and the movie is a AFI 100 classic. But I thought this show was going to be its own story set in a similar setting. What they seem to be doing instead is making the show into a shadow version of the movie and as long as they keep doing that, I'm going to keep comparing it to the original unfavorably. 2) I hate how not only the sheriff, but pretty much everyone but Molly and Malvo are such idiots. In the real world, there's no way the case would be closed and Chaz would still be in jail a year later. In the real world, Lester would be fired for what happened in the insurance office rather than honored (and laid) because of it. I don't know if this show is supposed to be taking place in some sort of whimsical alternate reality (i.e. a show like Pushing Dasies for example), or in this one. I don't think that Hawley knows for sure either.

In any case, my complaints don't detract enough for me to not enjoy the show. I'm not nearly as over-the-moon about it as many of you. I consider it a far inferior show to Game of Thrones, Mad Men, The Americans or True Detective, but I still enjoy it and am looking forward to see how it wraps up.

I think their portrayals are reasonable. I've met and worked with dumber.

Odenkirk is fantastic in this. I loved everything he did in this episode. You could almost see him straining not to think about the case when Molly was showing him her board and trying to explain it.

It's not like Lester was honored for what he did in the office. The only person who saw was his co-worker, who was already expressing an interest in him. But if there was an awards ceremony for best insurance office stapler defense, I would want to go.

I doubt the widow and her kids would report Lester, since "This guy promised to bend/break some rules for me" wasn't going to help her at all.

Also, it's supposed to be in a Coen-like world and in that world people tend to be a little extra quirky.

I don't find the objections bothering me. They are incorporating some similar thematic elements but it stands on its own as a story quite well I think. Plus the Coen's are among my favorite movie makers and Fargo is their best movie, so I love the setting and feel of the show.

I also know from experience that small towns can be every bit as incompetent and biased in pursuing actual crime as indicated here.
