Re: Last Show You Binged?

Finishing up some old stuff off the DVR from the summer before Fall TV officially starts:

Killjoys (SyFy): Finished the last 4 episodes today. Honestly, I didn't really like it that much. I liked Dark Matter and it's characters better. It ended on a cliffhanger, so I'll give it another go next summer.

Stitchers (ABC Family): Finished the last 6 episodes over the last 2 days. If this show didn't have 3 attractive leads (Emma Ishta, Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Allison Scagliotti) I probably wouldn't have finished the season. The show was just okay. Decent summer filler being a sci-fi police procedural. Thank god it was only a 10 episode season.

In binging some shows, I also made a few sacrifices to clear out more DVR space. I bailed on:

Mr. Robot (USA): Just couldn't get into it. I watched 4 episodes and honestly outside of the Pilot, I barely understood what I was watching. Deleted the remaining 6 episodes I had recorded. One of the rare instances where I couldn't finish a season. I guess I'm in the minority being one of the few who didn't like it.

Orphan Black (BBCA): Completely lost the magic it had in season 1. It was no longer must watch. I had 6 episodes stored since it aired and had no urge to binge them.

The Astronauts Wives Club (ABC): I only watched 4 of the 10 episodes I had recorded. It was decent and I liked most of the female cast, but I didn't feel compelled to finish it.

 I now have 70% free on my Directv Genie. The most I've had free in almost 2 years. Feels somewhat liberating to clear out so much this summer.

8 episodes of Chasing Life yesterday/last night

I was never going to drop the show. I just had a bunch built up and finally made the time to catch up. Some really gut wrenching & dramatic episodes.

Italia Ricci is a really beautiful actress. I've loved her work on this show. I hope this comes back for a 3rd season. Looking forward to the Italy shot season finale next week.

Pretty sure a lot of people gave up after episode 4, which was way too early for an episode like that - I pretty much tuned out of that particular episode myself. Chalk it up to growing pains I suppose, that series got more grounded after that but it's simply just not for everybody.

I've watched the last 2 David Tennant specials and seasons 5-8 of Doctor Who in the last 16 days. This is only surpassed by the time I watched Smallville in like 2 months. It was pretty great but
Spoiler:
when the Master showed up again it's like oh this time he has unlimited Cybermen instead of unlimited Daleks or unlimited golden snitches. And the structure of the episode remains exactly the same for all Master episodes.

Binged all of Season 4 for the whole week. It's starting to look like the stories are going nowhere and will end up being like Losts ending. I guess the writers wanna piss off a new generation of fans

Based on those two shows, I want to suggest AHS: Asylum for some reason.

I want to read the books first, which at my rate probably means the show will be done before I get to it.

I know it sounds strange, but if I know that a movie/tv show is coming out for a book, I try to read a book many months to at least a year before the movie/tv show is released, otherwise my brain can't help but compare/contrast my reading experience during my viewing experience, and becomes a distraction. But if I see a movie/show and then read the source material, I find I can enjoy the material and still appreciate the movie/tv show. My imagination is almost better than any adaptation that the film/tv version will almost always be a disappointment, thus better to get the adaptation out of the way, since watching a movie/tv show isn't nearly as immersive/engaging as reading a book. Only series like Harry Potter come to mind as being good both on screen and in print, for whatever reason.

My daughter is an avid reader and has the same complaint. Rarely is the movie as good as the book so she wants to separate the two by as many months as possible.

I am way behind in many shows.

Finally on the last disc of S4 Chuck, saw a couple last night.

Only one more Blindspot to be caught up

All caught up on Castle

Blacklist s3 is piling up on the DVR, but there are still a bunch from s2 I haven't seen yet.

Every Christmas vacation I watch Band Of Brothers but I'm thinking I don't have the time this year.

Wow, Chuck is one of those shows that I watched for a while but that I totally forget exists. It's crazy to me that show is almost 10 years old.

Just watched all of Happy Valley s1. While not perfect, this show fits right alongside those other UK detective/cop shows that are just miserable viewing experiences. Don't know what it says about me that I dig these shows so much.

Jessica Jones. Which hardly felt like it because it was only thirteen episodes. I will NOT binge like I did years ago. Too much, too crazy, not enough time anyway. Smaller series are easier to watch in a few days or three.
