Tough Crowd was very good. That was probably the first political discussion show I watched. Though Colin Quinn's fragmented deliveries were frustrating sometimes. He did a spoken word show a year or two ago that was very good too.

I've stuck with TNS for the whole run. The problem I find with it is that it doesn't have the in-depth journalism of TDS or especially Last Week Tonight, and the panel segments are way too short to get any discussion like you get on Real Time. So in the end it's really kind of a bland show that doesn't bring much new to the table.

Ah, yes. The Bill Nye episode. Not the show's finest hour, but to hear the internet tell it, this was the greatest atrocity of the last hundred years (#2: the Holocaust).

Not surprised at all. The round table segments were mostly cringe worthy.

Daily Show has been good so far with the Olympics theme. Intros have been great.

How did I miss this? I watched the show at that time. That episode is what I was talking about. Ricky talking like that.

So first, I like to watch/read the news and keep the commentary to a minimum. Second, when I do watch something that projects a narrative, I like when it holds up to scrutiny. The commentary from Stewart and Colbert was so hard to object to. And then it was genuinely funny.

But what's the point of watching a show when you're constantly thinking 'not this shit again' (just like the meme)? So I always put Larry Wilmore together with shows like Hannity, where the commentary is easily objectionable. It didn't have that brick-wall of logic like Stewart and Colbert.

Why were people pissed about that Bill Nye segment? This is the first I've heard about it or seen it, and it was certainly annoying, but I don't understand the "internet hate".

I'm pretty disappointed because I enjoy Nightly more than Trevor's Daily. I'm surprised they are canceling it without something to replace it with, you would think they'd let it air until a replacement was ready

The article that parker63 linked to said the issue was that a renewal would've meant a commitment of at least another year.
Otherwise, it sounds like they would've kept it running until at least after the election.

You know how when some young person complains about a vapid thing so admittedly that it sounds like a "first world problem". The two who took up the "I don't give a shit" stance on water on mars added no constructive conversation to the matter and were the poster children of everything folks hate about "hipsters" or whatever the derogatory term for those to full of themselves to give a shit.

I thought the issue was with Nye.

Yeah, people can be so caught up in their own bullshit, that they have blinders on to anything outside of their own personal worldview, characterized perfectly by those two idiots who refused to want to even understand how Mars exploration could possibly benefit them. But at least Wilmore was on Nye's side.

The top comment on the youtube video is spot-on. Watching Nye try to explain things to these idiots is like Luke Wilson's character from Idiocracy trying to explain anything to people of the future.

This is all true.

There's also an element of the demographics of the complainers. It's typically a middle class, white millennial who grew up watching Bill Nye the Science Guy, so this segment was something akin to watching a comedian make fun of Santa Claus or Daddy.

That Bill Nye clip is my entire exposure to The Nightly Show. Maybe for the best.

His panel for tonight is still TBA, but it should be Jon Stewart, Colbert and Trevor Noah, talking about political discussions on comedy late night shows.

Colbert and Trevor Noah didn't show up, but they did send gifts, along with John Oliver and Samantha Bee.

The "panel" was all the regular correspondents for the show that could show up (a few sent videos), talking about the show and behind-the-scenes stories. Which, on reflection, it is how it should be.
