Continuum -- "Wasted Minute" -- 5/09/14

Kiera doesn't have a second to waste when she and Carlos, who isn't in the most stable emotional state, rush to stop Liber8 from their plan to launch a devastating chemical attack on the city.
Original Air Date: May 9, 2014

Apparently, adding household chemicals to chemical waste creates a virus. Also that virus survives in a container outside a host and becomes active only when exposed to air.

Did I miss something? I thought mixing the chemicals created a biological weapon like anthrax not a chemical weapon like VX.

Thought they said all 3 had to mix together and with air to activate.

Crazy we're about half way through the season already.

Dillon is still a tool. I'd be happy if he didn't make it out of the season.

Surprised of her killer. I wonder if he's a Liber 8 plan into the Freelancers; although I don't suppose that explains him dying previously.

I've been watching the Canadian feeds, to I'm a little ahead of the threads here. I just watched wanted to tease that you're in for a treat in the next episode! Spoilers if you want to know more:
Spoiler:
the next episode takes place almost entirely in the future, with almost nothing set present day.

Biological weapons require growing organisms, not just mixing chemicals. Sonya said the antidote was an antivirus in Travis' blood.

The shifting alliances on the different time traveling sides are starting to become hard to follow, especially if you treat the show as a casual viewer.

And who's to say that the waste product wasn't biological? Sonmanto was making food products.

Surely everyone caught this, but I guess it bears mentioning just in case. Sonmanto was clearly meant to be a reference to the real-life corporation Monsanto.

I actually didn't care for it and thought it was a waste of an episode, at the very least a filler, as it didn't really advance the storyline much. It's something they could've done with 15 minutes of flashbacks rather than an entire episode.

I agree. I liked that the show had only shown us glimpses up until now, and with so much currently happening with the story it just didn't seem like a wise decision.

Well, the most current episode gets it all back on track, at least.

If you eat anything that uses or is feed corn or soybeans there's a very good chance the seeds where provided by Monsanto. They make Round-Up and plants that are Round-Up resistant. Farmers have to buy the seeds from them every year. Farmers can't even use the seeds from the previous crop of Monsanto plants because Monsanto will sue them. If the neighbor's farm uses Monsanto seeds and you don't Monsanto will sue you if the seed spread from your neighbor (through wind or other natural causes). Their holy grail is developing a plant that is Round-Up resistant and doesn't produce seeds. They are the embodiment of the future corporations portrayed on this show.

Not to mention, all the food&drug regulatory employees who should be holding Monsanto accountable to their shenanigans look the other way and are later given cushy jobs at Monsanto. And a whole lot of Monsanto employees and lawyers later end up working for the government (like Donald Rumsfeld, Clarance Thomas) and again looking the other way when it concerns Monsanto.

Had a weird thought this morning. What if there are two Alec Sadler's alive in the future flash-forwards? He's rich enough to make it work. Hell, Liber8 could have blown one of him up in that building first episode and nobody would know.

It would have to be a different timeline as the future Sadler had never met Kiera, and there was no time travel in his timeline prior to the events in the first episode.

Re: Continuum -- "Wasted Minute" -- 5/09/14

I got the impression that Future Alex did remember Kiera. Didn't he specifically get her assigned to the execuction to make sure she was sent into the past. Don't remember what episodes this stuff happened though.

Also
Spoiler:
in the next one, he seems to go out of his way to give extra benefits to Keira's husband. Why else do that for some random cop unless he does have a connection with her.
