Re: Mad Men -- Season 7A Premiere -- "Time Zones" -- 4/13/14

I'm fine with them splitting the final season up, but I just don't get why the need to wait an entire year to air the second part. That's an insanely long wait for something they're filming right now. Why not in the late fall?

edit: It usually never matters to me, but I am going on very little sleep and I made a spelling error that I simply couldn't live with if I didn't correct it.

Agree. They are filming all 14 episodes in a row. Your talking about waiting 10-11 months before seeing the second half of this season. Mad Men isn't the kind of super popular water cooler show like Breaking Bad that will keep it's momentum.

When Breaking Bad filmed their final season, they actually split the filming schedule.

No idea what's in store for the gang this season, but can't wait to find out. These 7 eps will fly by in a heartbeat.

Re: Mad Men -- Season 7A Premiere -- "Time Zones" -- 4/13/14

The split is lame... very lame. AMC has now done it with Breaking Bad, Walking Dead (although the break was shorter) and now Mad Men. Milking it for all it's worth because when Mad Men is done, the only thing people will be watching on AMC is Walking Dead.

Looking forward to Mad Men.

Re: Mad Men -- Season 7A Premiere -- "Time Zones" -- 4/13/14

Yeah it's obvious that the split is being done because AMC know after it ends they don't have a lot of high rating original programming other than The Walking Dead. They're probably hoping by the time Mad Men ends next year they'll have something good to take it's place.

As for the premiere I'm looking forward to it. I thought season six started slowly but got better towards the end. Hopefully season seven takes the series out on a high note.

Re: Mad Men -- Season 7A Premiere -- "Time Zones" -- 4/13/14

Wow.... a whole year between these half-seasons. So lame. I guess they do this to justify their carry rate. That being said, once Mad Men ends, I have no need for AMC, since I couldn't give a rats ass about zombies.

At least the USA shows like Suits do half-seasons every 6 months or so.

The problem with the idea that AMC has hopes of having more good programming is that I don't heard much about them developing anything, either.

Turn (Revolutionary War period drama) is airing right now, but it seems like it has very lukewarm interest here.

Halt and Catch Fire airs in June. It's an 80's drama.

Better Call Saul airs in November.

That's it for new scripted shows for 2014.

Better Call Saul and Halt and Catch Fire could both be good. I especially am curious about Halt and Catch Fire, my only concern is that AMC's original shows seem kind of shakey in terms of quality.

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm saying. Turn is a clear bust. Better Call Saul is clearly not of the same sort of genre as the others. One real candidate for replacement is not exactly a bounty.

Re: Mad Men -- Season 7A Premiere -- "Time Zones" -- 4/13/14

It's amazing what AMC has done in such a short period of time.

They pushed out Breaking Bad and Mad Men in pretty close to the same period of time. 2 critically acclaimed series that have won a bunch of awards AND have gained a large following/ratings. And during that run they pushed out Walking Dead - which is a ratings gold mine (though nothing to write home about quality-wise).

Getting lightning to strike 3 times very quickly is very hard to do.

What's even more amazing is that the same channel will probably wind up in the crapper in the next few years.

Rags to riches back to rags.

Turn is far from being bust, unless you're speaking about its "Buzz worthy" factor? It got decent numbers week 1 with alot of competition and no lead-in help. I never expected a period drama about the American Revolutionary War to be the next Mad Men or Breaking Bad.

It's going to be a challenge for AMC to develop something that 20-30 something people want to see and will want to log on to the internet and talk about.

Re: Mad Men -- Season 7A Premiere -- "Time Zones" -- 4/13/14

Is there anywhere to watch a Season 6 recap video? The AMC site seems to just have trailers for Season 7.

thanks

(I can barely remember what happened in Season 6, with the exception of the final scene outside the childhood home)

The most annoying thing about these Sunday night shows (and all the best cable shows) is that they air them at 10p rather than 9p.

Off the top of my head: Sally got robbed by a Negro, Don and Betty banged, Peggy stabbed her meathead-looking boyfriend, Ken got shot and tapdanced and Pete got a real depressing apartment.

Don basically got fired, Sally watched Don banging the neighbor.

Don is an equity partner, so firing is a bit more complicated than that. He pretty much pulled a Freddy Rumsen, but all they could really do is send him away. Was that to send him away long enough to figure out how to buy him out of the company? To send him away into exile with a non-compete and he just draws his profit from the firm whenever there is one but no salary? To figure out what the hell to do with the guy? I guess we find out.

Yeah, if you're going to screw with people and split up the final season, at least make it 9 episodes and 9 or something.

I really wish I was strong enough to wait until next year and just watch the entire season at once. I hate that AMC is doing this.
