Monday-Howard Stern, Don Rickles

Wednesday-Julia Roberts, Paul Shaffer
Thursday-George Clooney
Friday-Oprah, Norm Macdonald (great for Norm to get this)

So, I think that leaves Tom Hanks, Regis and Bill Murray.

I'll be VERY disappointed if Foo Fighters isn't on during the final 3 shows, probably should be the last musical act.

That Monday show with Stern and Rickles is going to be wild and hilarious. I almost wish Dave could have both of them out there at the same time.

Press junket interviews are different than talk shows. Clooney actually quit doing talk shows for a little while a few years ago, but he started back up. I still remember his first trip back to Letterman afterwards, and Dave wanted to talk about like five of his movies b/c he had genuinely enjoyed them.

While the Foo Fighters deserve a spot on Monday or Tuesday of the following week, I stand by thought that the final night should just be a singer rocking out with the band. Paul and Will have been there since the first show. Sid and Anton have been there for 30 years. Felicia and Bones have been there since the move to CBS.

That's debatable, but regardless, him appearing on everything takes some of the "exclusive" luster off.

Yes, it was originally supposed to be Dave and Regis, but Dave brought Paul along.

Fun fact...
Apparently, the outfit Cher wore on last Wednesday's show was the same outfit she wore on the Sonny and Cher reunion episode in 1987.

See, I thought it short changed Don.

I know Howard pushed to be on the final show, but tonight just proved why he shouldn't have been. As entertaining as Howard can be, when Howard is on, it's all about Howard.

Loved Dave ripping on Howard: "How many days a week do you work?" and calling AGT "American Idol". And geez, Howard, but the Montana stuff wasn't funny the first 500 times you brought it up.

I wish someone would post the clip of when Letterman rushes out of the building and starts showing up on the sets of Roseanne, Cybill and Seinfeld...among others. I want to see that whole thing one more time before I die.

Stern used to be alot funnier on Letterman when Letterman stopped talking to him privately for years, as he was more distant and more uncomfortable which made for good tv. Heck he even went on Leno in the 1990's cause he was pissed off with Dave and now he bad mouths Leno whenever he gets a chance.

Not sure how many Stern fans there are here, but Stern used to tape his and Dave's private telephone conversations in the 1980's, and then Stern would play them on his radio show the next day. Letterman got so pissed that he stopped talking to Stern privately and it would be funny cause it was almost like they were catching up whenever he was a guest on his show. Stern would just call Dave out on everything and Letterman would always try to tone him down hoping he wouldn't go too far for the sensors.

Now they are good friends again and Stern keeps their private conversations private, so the dynamic isn't as funny anymore on Dave's show.

I have to say I haven't watched Letterman for years as I used to be his BIGGEST fan in the 80's/90's, but good lord he has just turned into an angry old man who just isn't funny anymore. Stern talked about how Dave will get bored after retirement on his radio show too, and doesn't think he can do what Carson did where he retired on top and just walk away from the spotlight and never be seen again.

You were wrong.

Clinton was a waste of a guest for the last episodes and Sandler delivered with a brilliant tribute song to Letterman. Adam seemed genuinely moved after he was finished too.

I'm certain it means more to Letterman to be able to sit and converse with a POTUS than any current movie star.

When his father is dead and gone, it will mean more to Harry to see video of Dave with Clinton and Obama than anyone from SNL.

I never liked politicans going on these shows (republican or democrat) as it always came off as phony to me. It is one thing if they are retired and long gone from politics (then they can be themselves and don't have to pander to voters), but Obama was on last week and still President, and Bill was on this week as Hillary is running in 2016.

I don't find Adam Sandler funny, nor have I, ever. So when I say that when someone like Bill Clinton is on the show (regardless of what you think of his politics), I find it a much more enjoyable experience.

I've always enjoyed Bill Clinton's appearances on Letterman. He and Dave have had some very interesting discussions through the years. In fact, I was disappointed when his name wasn't on the initial list of final guests.

That's one of things that will be sadly missing in late night once Dave leaves. I'm not sure there is anyone currently in late night who can have an informed interesting discussion with newsmakers (Craig could, but he's gone too).

Also, while I've never been a fan of Adam Sandler, I thought his song was funny and even a little touching.

Colbert could certainly have an intelligent conversation with anyone without needing to do a lip-synch contest.

I have a personal interest in these shows. Letterman is important to me, so I'll take the meaningful and touching appearances by Sandler (SNL), Martin Short (SNL), Tina Fey (SNL) and Norm Macdonald (SNL) any day of the week over the political talk, which would be all well and good if this wasn't the end of his run and more about his "friends" and paying tribute to Dave.

I hardly think Harry and his 400 million trust fund will care that Bill Clinton made one last appearance. In fact, Letterman has stated he always felt a closer connection to Hillary.

I'm not sure we know exactly what the Colbert talk show will look like with him not playing a character. I hope he can conduct an good interview. It would certainly fill a void.

I take a different view of these final weeks. I think it's about Dave wanting people on that he wants to talk to again. If he hadn't wanted Bill Clinton on then he wouldn't have been invited. Clearly, Dave felt those interviews through the years were as interesting as I did.

Tonight's guest is Julia Roberts. For all the fawning Dave has done over her through the years, I've just never really thought she was actually all that interesting, but I recognize that Dave disagrees with me and wants her on the show one final time.

I think Dave has said he's pretty much letting his producers decide how the guests will line up. Now, including Rob Burnett, these are some of the closest people to Dave there is and, while I find it almost shocking that Dave isn't making most of these decisions almost entirely on his own, he insists that he's not.

Julia has been over of Dave's best guests over the years. Can't wait to see her tonight. I still think Dave didn't need to tell anyone he wanted Julia for one of his last shows. You and I know Dave pretty well and we could have come up with the last 20 guests or so and picked almost the same people that have been on and will be on. There have only been a few odd choices (Reese) and I think they really could have done a better job with the musical guests overall.

Yeah during the Stern segment, Letterman seemed mostly unaware about trying to get Leno on. Stern brought it up and Letterman had to ask a producer who said they asked and Leno declined. Not sure if it was known before, but Letterman said that Leno had asked him to be on his last week but he also declined telling him his last week should be about him and thought that is probably Leno's thinking declining him.

Maybe so, but as you say these are some of the closest people to Dave, and I'm sure they have a pretty good idea on what past shows and past guests Dave has liked.

Of the political guests in the last few weeks, Dave clearly and obviously adores Michelle Obama. You just don't turn down an opportunity to interview the President no matter where you fall on the political spectrum, and the Letterman-Bill Clinton interviews have been among the best interviews Clinton has given since he left office b/c Letterman can successfully play to both sides of Clinton more than "serious journalists" can.

I always thought Leno would make an appearance, but at this point, it would have to be a surprise or something.

Letterman and Leno together would have been great television. Disappointing it's not happening.

I wonder if there's any chance once Dave's run on The Late Show ends that we'll get some sort of best of DVD or Blu-ray. It'd be cool to see a compilation of the best moments from both the NBC and CBS years and maybe include his final few shows or something.

If I were in charge of CBS, I might consider asking Dave if he would consider moving over to 60 Minutes. He'd get to set his own schedule, and he could do long form conversations that interested him.
