This sums up my feelings on Walking Dead perfectly. This isn't a TV version of "The Zombie Survival Guide". Many of the criticisms week in and week out are related to how people react to zombies - cause you know, we'd all be calm, collected and rational when flesh eaters are involved.

There are of course valid criticisms of the writing concerning how the zombies behave - how the hell can zombies always get within 2 feet of someone before they notice them? Zombies used to be able to smell humans, but now they can just walk right by a tree where someone is hiding out and not smell them? etc. etc.

this second half of the season has been disappointing. Terminus better be awesome. It better be like fucking Thunderdome.

40% of on-line complaints about the show are regarding plot holes that don't exist if you paid attention. Another 40% are that the show is trying to be a drama about average people and not "Jack Bauer vs the Undead".

From the responses in these threads, I've learned that many of the posters here are above such petty human concerns as fear, hunger, injury, stress, fatigue, and lack of plot omniscience. It would seem that they would therefore make great companions in case of an actual zombie apocalypse, but remember that they are hard men capable of making hard choices and will execute you if you get the sniffles.

Unlikely to happen, as Kirkman has pretty much said the Walking Dead is primarily Carl and Rick's story.

However if you read the comics...

Spoiler:
then you know that sometime in the not too distant future, Carl does take another bullet, but doesn't die. He loses an eye to it, and get's a rather nasty facial scar because of it.

Oh I'm aware, on both counts. However I can still hope.

I'm in that camp too. I'd like Rick thrown in as a bonus. I appreciated the progression of Rick's character through seasons 1 and 2. But in the 3rd, the writing for Rick has been erratic to the point where the only predictable thing about Rick is that he will use logic that he never used before.

Keeping bonfires going might be an interesting way to divert and destroy zombies.

I don't know...

That smoke scene reminded me of "Dances with Wolves" when the Native People laughed at how stupid it is to create a fire that smokes a lot because smoke attracts attention and gives away your position. If the Walkers see it, so will some group of Bastards looking to take your shit...

Even more recently:

Spoiler:
Rick get tagged with an arrow drenched with zombie guts. The next issue has not come out yet, but I can't see how Rick will make it out alive from it. So it appears that Rick is expendable in the comic version.

Spoiler:
You can't? Having read that last issue, I don't think there's anyway Rick dies in the comic, let alone from just an arrow.

EDIT: And after reading Kirkman's AMA posted below, I notice Kirkman had previously said Rick is expendable in the comic and about the zombie guts. Eep.

Not that anyone here is going to watch, but the show was sold into syndication. Will begin airing on MyNetworkTV affiliates this Fall.

Yeah, I'm up to date on the comics, however...

Spoiler:
I'm not buying that the arrow Rick got shot with was loaded up with zombie guts. It took Dwight some time to load the crossbow, probably because he wanted to be sure he was using a 'clean' bolt, instead of a gunked up one. Also, where Rick got shot was in a pretty non vital area, meaning it's likely a very survivable hit, otherwise. Of course I could be completely wrong, but I guess we'll just have to wait to the next issue to see.

I had that same guess. But, you never know with Kirkman.

And those complaining about the horrible, lazy and unimaginative writing are what percentage exactly?

Perhaps it's been posted a few times in 7 pages but I just caught this episode last night. The opening of Lizzie playing "tag" with the walker was one of the most intense, wtf openings I've been fortunate enough to see... just awesome, IMO. I thought this episode was fantastic... sure, you still had your "wtf were they thinking moments" but overall it was uplifting and gut wrenching all in the same 40 minutes.

Random question - why did the stove work?

^^ The wife and I assumed the home was run on propane and there must have been some left over... my question is: when Tyrese and Carol left the house, they didn't have the baby with them. If they did, they were swinging her like a sack of potatoes. Did I miss something?

Tyrese had Judith on his back in a papoose thing.

Gas.

After 1.5-2 years of being completely unmanned, wouldn't the gas service have been shut off automatically at the gas company? This comes from someone who admittedly has no real understanding of how that works.

I guess you've never seen one of these next to a house before:
