HBO says to not expect season 2 until sometime in 2025 at the earliest.

The producers have completely stopped work on season 2 due to the writer's strike.

That's fair. It probably would have been late 2024 at the earliest.

So yes, just about a decade ago. TBH I would play the game first before I watched the show.

I did end up waiting and playing the game first, and I'm glad I did. It's a great game with interesting characters. The PC version of Part 1 was released in March but I waited until June to play it when I was off work for the summer. Probably a good thing, since apparently there were some bugs and performance problems at first, but by June things had been ironed out and my playthrough was unaffected by any such problems.

I binged this MAX series soon after finishing the game. It's a pretty faithful adaptation, but with the emphasis appropriately on the characters and not as much time spent on the action sequences with the infected. For example the episode devoted almost entirely to showing the relationship between Bill and Frank is pretty much all made up for the series. Still, a lot of memorable scenes and iconic imagery from the game are in the series, including the Left Behind sequence (the flashback to Ellie and her friend in the mall).

Now I'm hoping they will get a PC version of Part 2 of the game released sometime soon. There is apparently a remaster of Part 2 for PS5 coming out in January, even though Part 2 is only a few years old.

Kaitlyn Dever to play Abby. Good choice, she's always good.

I think she was up for almost Ellie, she looks like the video game version, but they thought looked too old.

She’s a good pick for the part.

What's the over/under on the drop in viewership once "IT" happens? People who played the game won't be phased, but the casual fans might revolt ala Walking Dead's Neagan/Glen episode.

re: The Last of Us - news, rumors, etc.

I am wondering, if "it" happens in the finale of S2 and not how the game plays out exactly. Then S3 of the show, which seems inevitable, will be the back half of LoU2. I think that is how they would do it if they were smart. Doing that thing early on might piss people off and they never come back.

If it is her, she better get swole. I really don’t want them to puss out and change the character.
Katy O’brian would have been so perfect.

About half way through season 1.

Thanks to Vudu sale!

Really good. I will pass on season 2 as I really did not care for part 2 of the game if they follow it as close as this one. I suspect they will feel the need to change a few things but maybe not.

re: The Last of Us - news, rumors, etc.

Finished it. I get they had to show us how Ellie got bit but episode 7 dragged this to a halt. I guess most would call it filler.

Last few felt really rushed especially episode 9 that was a shame.

Ending was good.

Overall I liked it and it can end here for me.

I have to revisit this. I know I liked it, but I can't remember too much. I never played the game so I wasnt as much invested into it.

I changed it to be a "news" thread. There are Episode threads for Season 1.

I just watched the third episode a few days ago. Incredible performances by him and Murray Bartlett.

Re: The Last of Us - news, rumors, etc.

You know, to be honest I wasn’t jiving with the first 2 eps (I think because it was too similar to the game), but then…ep. 3 came along, “Long, long time” and Bill and Frank had sex. It was one of the most emotional episodes of television I’ve seen in quite sometime. The relationship those two had had such an emotional impact on me. It’s because I played the game and knew the desolation and devastation in this world and Bill and Frank’s relationship was so tender, so sweet, so genuine. I then saw the relationship with Joel and Ellie start to get a little warmer. It’s not totally there yet, like the game, but I see it coming and if the writers can pop in a fresh take, not seen in the game like this, I just know more heart is to come. As Joel and Ellie drove off to the fantastic lyrics of Linda Ronstadt, a single tear dripped from my face and I know the rest is going to be exceptional. Wonderful episode that won’t be soon forgotten.
