Yeah I think the most they ever admitted that they had planned out was the final shot of the show.

Even Chris Carter was offended by how bad the Lost finale was.

I liked the ending. My only really disappointing episode was the goofy island gods flashback episode. When I rewatch it I'm going to skip right over that one. Just like I do with the Bai Ling episode of Angel.

I just don't understand why some people like to try to call them out for making things up as they went along, Vince Gilligan and his writers made Breaking Bad up as they went along. Of course Gilligan and company executed way better at this strategy.
Most annoying for me is the people that watched the whole way through and think everyone was dead the whole time. I still have Lost as one of my favorite shows of all time, I wonder how things would have gone if there was not the "flash sideways" world. |
Re: Chronologically LOST: a guy dissected every scene from Lost and put them in orde
"Making it up as you go along" is not necessarily a bad strategy -- it can keep a show grounded in reality (that is how life happens!). The problem is when "making it up" gets sloppy and leads to ignoring the established past happenings and character behaviors.

There will probably never be a show like Lost ever again
Yes the last season was pretty bad and the ending isn't what everyone wanted but it was an amazingly entertaining tv show (specially if you watched it while it aired) and the series finale is pretty good I've watched every season probably 5 or 6 times now |

In Breaking Bad, there were very few true mysteries, and the secrets that came up were all revealed when the writers felt it was time--and they took great care to make sure all secrets were revealed and dealt with by the finale. The LOST writers just seemed to finally get to the point where they threw up their hands and said, "Meh, who cares about the mysteries? Let's pretend they don't need explaining after all." And the problem was, they had created a culture where everyone cared very much. |
Re: Chronologically LOST: a guy dissected every scene from Lost and put them in orde
Well said juryduty. Breaking Bad was very linear and only has a couple of possible outcomes. Lost was all about introducing something new week after week until the show collapsed under it's own weight.
The biggest kicker was the "we need exactly 16 episodes to finish the story" and proceed to give us season 6. I'm still waiting on those 16 episodes. |
Re: Chronologically LOST: a guy dissected every scene from Lost and put them in orde
So a thread about a way of watching LOST differently than aired turns into a tiresome retread of I hate the finale, and then a Breaking Bad is better than LOST potential fanboi fight enters the fray. Sheesh.

Re: Chronologically LOST: a guy dissected every scene from Lost and put them in orde
No, Breaking Bad is the superior show. It's the best show of the two. Even a hardcore Lost fan will admit that.
That doesn't mean that Lost can't be your favorite show. :) |

Breaking Bad shouldn't even but mentioned in a thread about Lost. It's like comparing Michael Jordan to Spud Webb.

No.
A musical comparison is better. Lost is Madonna, BB is whatever artist from the 80s you think is the best. |

It's true though. The last season was so bad, and then when they reveal everything they are in frickin' purgatory like most people figured after a few episodes that it completely sapped any desire to see a single minute of LOST ever again.

Ha, for a good read, go back and see our real time reactions to the ending:

Christian Shephard: I sure hope so. Yeah, I'm real. You're real. Everything that's happened to you is real. All those people in the church, they're all real too. Jack Shephard: No. They're all... They're all dead. I'm dead. You're dead. Christian Shephard: Everyone dies sometime, kiddo. Some of them before you, some... long after you. Jack Shephard: But why are they all here now? Christian Shephard: Well, there is no "now", here. Jack Shephard: Where are we, Dad? Christian Shephard: This is a place that you... that you all made together so that you could find one another. The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people on that island. That's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you. Jack Shephard: For what? Christian Shephard: To remember. And to... let go. Jack Shephard: Kate... She said we were leaving. Christian Shephard: Not leaving. No. Moving on. Jack Shephard: Where are we going? Christian Shephard: Let's go find out. (I do feel bad about bringing Breaking Bad into this) |

So when did they die?
