Vulture looks at 30 shows on the bubble meter

Decent look at 30 bubble shows, lots of focus on DVR numbers and who owns the show.

Re: Vulture looks at 30 shows on the bubble meter

It looked relatively well reasoned. I don't really think reposting would be fair use, but I think it's pretty much correct to say the premise is if it's a new NBC comedy, a new ABC comedy that doesn't air on Tuesday, Raising Hope, a CBS drama that CBS does not own a piece of, or a Fox drama, your chances aren't great. The other bubble shows do pretty well.

Re: Vulture looks at 30 shows on the bubble meter

I haven't even heard of half these shows. And most of the ones I have heard of, I've never seen a single episode.

Keep Mindy Project and Parks/Rec... they can scrap the rest for all I care.

It's in a horrible slideshow format, intent on preventing users from simply posting the list elsewhere. It's pure speculation.

Any analysis is speculation unless it's being done by the networks itself. I was really riffing on more the question whether or not it's crap.

Trophy Wife is a funny show. Agreed the name is misleading. I hope it comes back.

I don't think there's any doubt Brooklyn 99 will get a second season at this point, especially with the Super Bowl spot.

isn't The Good Wife one of CBS's highest shows?

Its ratings are not what they once were, and I think the same goes for its level of critical praise. Add in escalating budget to the mix, and that's how a show like this sometimes gets canceled. IIRC, they like it to return. They just think it's still a bubble show.

You left out the score for each show, which was kind of the point of the article in the first place. I've added them above. It's a 1 to 10 scale, higher being more likely renewal.

Re: Vulture looks at 30 shows on the bubble meter

I prefer TVBythenumbers for this kind of analysis, but they're pretty good with their numbers here.

I think they're too high on The Good Wife. Good Wife is in the same position The Mentalist was last year, which is the show has made syndication, but is about to become much more expensive to produce. The Mentalist decided to shed cast members and change the premise of the show to try and survive, but the likelyhood is that this'll be the last season for it.

The Good Wife will likely survive another year, but I can't see them keeping the cast as large as it is right now. CBS just has too few holes to fill, which makes it had for shows to survive if they're not huge hits.

Re: Vulture looks at 30 shows on the bubble meter

The Good Wife has a syndication deal with The Hallmark channel and streaming deals with Hulu and Amazon. It will be back at least 1 more season. The currently airing season has gotten a lot of critical praise.

I think CBS will cancel The Mentalist after this season. The main story arc has been wrapped and it's a WB show. It already has a syndication deal with TNT. Also, Simon Baker is due some big money if it reaches season 7.

Regarding Cast on The Good Wife, the King's have said that many of the cast and guest stars are working for lesser salaries. Julianna Margulies is probably the highest paid actor since she's also a credited producer.

Re: Vulture looks at 30 shows on the bubble meter

The only 3 I watch are Community, Parks & Rec, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I could do without Brooklyn, but don't want to see Community or P&R go.

I'll eventually watch The Good Wife someday when it wraps up. I already have the first 2 seasons on dvd.

I assume Spader is good and the fat kid from Stand By Me is bad?

Same 3 for me but I think Brooklyn is most important cuz it has the most life left in it. But all 3 coming back would be best.
