Breaking bad marathon and first world problems

So I own all the seasons of breaking bad already, but when there is a marathon on TV for one of the best shows I will watch it regardless.

BUT

There are some fucked up commercials that we have to put up with when we get something as awesome as a breaking bad marathon. It's either an animal abuse commercial from the ASPCA, or starving kids in a third world country, or wounded veterans. EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME THERE IS A COMMERCIAL BREAK.

One commercial is for animal abuse, and then on another one its Susan Sarandon saying how your money can go to a family so they can have an animal that they can use for food.

I change the channel instead of mute, and then forget its on the wrong channel waiting for the show to start back up, and then realize that I have it on the wrong channel and miss some of the episode of breaking bad. So I have decided I now have to tape a show on my DVR to combat this.

Then this afternoon I tried to change the channel when the animal abuse commercial came on, and I couldn't because my wife was taping Friends at the same time and my DVR only records 2 shows at once.

Not to mention that my wife tapes episodes of Friends constantly, AND she has every single season on DVD already. Who the fuck does shit like that? I know I kind of am doing it now, but only because of these fucked up commercials.

So anyways.....

Has any show stayed as strong as breaking bad did throughout its entire run? Discuss.

Yeah, I hate those damn animal abuse commercials, especially since today I saw a cat in a dumpster and did nothing! I am a heartless prick.

I don't get it. You & your wife own all seasons of BB & Friends but would rather watch the commercial infested broadcast versions? Why?

Yeah, I can understand zoning out to something that's on the air, but taping them is pretty silly.

I don't know why she does it; probably out of laziness.... and I don't bother nitpicking shit like that which doesn't really matter either way.

I only tape them during a marathon like now when there are commercials like I talked about. I watch them because they are on TV already so why not watch them...seeing as its the best thing I see that's on to watch? Yes I could pop the blu rays in, but I guess I can be lazy too....

I don't record them but I watch The Simpsons and Seinfeld whenever they're on TV and I have the DVDs and have seen them countless times.

Totally agree. In this regard Breaking Bad was far superior to The Wire. I watched both in semi-marathon fashion and BB was much harder to stop from going right into the next episode when I should have been getting some sleep. No comparison.

The Wire is uneven, but its high points are some of the best moments of television. Breaking Bad does have one misstep, though: Marie's kleptomania.

I sort of see Marie's kleptomania as a metaphor for "Heisenberg" being under Hank's nose the whole time.

Hank's a cop, yet his wife is a serial thief who lives in his own home. He turns a blind eye to her criminal behavior. Meanwhile, his own brother-in-law is the great Heisenberg, and he can't see it despite all of the clues he finds.

exactly and the outward appearances does not always match the interior character. I actually thought that Marie's kleptomania and Hank's collecting of rocks *they"re MINERALS Marie!" added a lot of depth to the show

I don't know, it seems like they wanted to go somewhere with the klepto stuff, and then realized it was crap, and dropped it, adding in a throwaway line in a later season referring back to it.

This is how I always felt, too. That extended subplot with her going to the open houses and stealing things always felt odd in comparison to the rest of the series.

It does make for something nice that Skylar can throw in her face when Walt's activities come to light, though.

Maybe Marie was going to steal the Walt Whitman book out of Walter and Skyler's house, and Hank would have found it that way instead of while was looking for reading material for a bowel movement.

I would say Six Feet Under was strong throughout most of it's run. I know some people will say that it got a bit weak around the third or fourth season but I thought the show was pretty solid.

I must say that six feet under is one of those shows I have yet to watch. Maybe I will get around to it someday.

Everyone has something to hide. That's why they included that subplot.

Exactly. Whether it's a secret meth empire or an addiction to cereal every character was shown to be flawed.

Yeah. This choice makes absolutely no sense to me.
