Re: Doctor Who Christmas Special -- "The Time of the Doctor" -- 12/25/13

Spoiler:
Tasha Lem was clearly River Song. First, the Doctor kisses her passionately. Second, he says that she's been holding back the psychopath inside of her all her life, mere minutes after she referred to River Song as a psychopath designed to kill The Doctor (to which the Doctor replies, "Married her!"). Third, she can fly the TARDIS. Up to this point since the 2005 series started, we've only seen two characters who can fly the TARDIS single-handedly: The Doctor and River Song.

I never got into DW. I did catch a few episodes from the marathon today. Neat show. Would i be totally lost if i started watching the new one without knowing any of the characters?

If you start at season one (of the 2005 series), you'll be fine. Alternately, you could start with season five, which is the first season with Matt Smith. The show wiped a lot of stuff away and went off in different directions starting in that season.

Ahhh makes sense.. I had wondered about that.

But 11 didn't do it. unless they reference it with 12 at some point.

Well, I assume they'll have 12 doing it, unless 12 recounts a tale of how he did it as 11.

Anyone know whats the general turnaround on AZ Instant avaliability on these specials. I hardly ever pay attention to when they first go up vs the air date.

BBCA whoring out Atlantis over the end credits was a bit much.

I really don't know how I feel about the episode yet.

So it's worth noting that they didn't give the Doctor unlimited regenerations, which I assumed they would. He's got a new set, but when those run out, he'll have to get another.

If you know the classic series, it was nice that they subtly pointed in this direction during the episode
Spoiler:
when the Doctor produced the seal of the High Council that he'd taken from the Master during "The Five Doctors". And why was the Master working for them in that story? Because they promised to give him a whole new cycle of regenerations, just as they did for the Doctor here.

Re: Doctor Who Christmas Special -- "The Time of the Doctor" -- 12/25/13

It was solid and a fitting end to Smiths run. I nearly lost it at the cameo at the end. Kudos for that. I'm still quite abit frustrated by Moffatt but since it's Xmas I won't get into that.

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Matt as the doctor.

Re: Doctor Who Christmas Special -- "The Time of the Doctor" -- 12/25/13

So the Tasha Lem woman was...
Spoiler:
River Song? I totally missed out on that. Actually, I was thinking (hoping) she would turn out to be Romana. Surely Romana can fly a TARDIS too. She could have even turned out to be Susan but it doesn't seem like the show will ever go deeper into that relationship. Well, an old Who fan can dream.

So Gallifrey granted him a new cycle of regenerations? So he can now regenerate 12 more times before dying? Also getting a new cycle allows him to shoot down Dalek ships with energy beams from his hands? WTF?

Can someone remind me which episode David Tenant regenerated into David Tenant? I only vaguely remember what happened.
