that show is so ludicrous - the plausibility factor and how it will sustain a full season is mind boggling.

you'd have to hold a gun to my head to make me watch that show - overpraised and insanely unfunny IMO. I find most of the comedy shows on CBS to be uber lame.

I can't comment about American Dad since I've only seen maybe ... two episodes. I hate the central character "Stan"

but my favorite show on Sunday is 'Bob's Burgers' and in turn... FX's 'Archer' which is also very clever and an utter hoot.

It doesn't have to... Hostages was designed as a 12-week limited series.

Actually, Hostages has already sustained a full season quite effectively. There are just 3 more episodes to go for the season.

This isn't true either. Jerry Bruckheimer stated in an interview that Hostages was not designed to be a miniseries. In this case, "limited series" means a shorter season of episodes (15) rather than the drawn out seasons (22) that most network shows tend to go for.

Given the shows poor ratings, it's definitely not coming back for a second season. I hope the producer's shot an alternate ending.

I'll hold out hope. Other shows have seen even lower ratings and gotten renewed. NBC's Hannibal is the PERFECT example!

CBS is far more strict with ratings than NBC is, but even then Hannibal was a critically acclaimed series that got a big bump by DVR every week. Generally going from 1.3 to a 2.3. While Hostages gets a similar gain (1.0 to 1.7), it still hits < 2.0 which is a kiss of death. The only thing that could keep it alive is CBS kissing Bruckheimers ass.

Hands down and without a doubt, Banshee is the most criminally underrated show (drama) currently airing. Season two starts in mere weeks. Do yourself a favor everyone and pick up the first season on DVD. You can thank me later.

Without reading the thread thus far:

The Americans - Excellent top-notch show. However, never heard a friend or family member mention a thing about it, let alone know what the fuck I'm talking about when I mention it. Definitely underrated.

Justified - About the only "cop" show I can stand because it really seems to do a good job of blurring the lines between good and evil...another show that I never hear anyone ever talk about, let alone praise.

The Bridge - Probably the least known of the bunch, but it ended up being a real quality show. I enjoyed the ride, and look forward to more.

And...I know it's not currently airing, but fuck it, Fringe was completely overlooked in its entirety and that's a complete shame. It did everything right that Lost did wrong.

Damn...completely forgot about that one. This is probably my favorite discovery of the year. Caught up with it on Netflix just in time for the new season to air and now I listen to the podcast everyday on my way to and from work.

Justified gets plenty of praise from critics and the like, but it gets completely ignored at awards time which is a fucking shame. In that regard it is highly underrated.

I guess, for me, underrated is more directly related to whom I speak with. Justified just doesn't register on the radar for my family, friends and co-workers. But I do agree, it gets a lot of praise from critics, and even here in the forum, I'd say.

That makes total sense. I have the opposite -- Justified is one of two shows (Sons of Anarchy) I watch with two of my 8 coworkers, so we have a nice water cooler conversation weekly about it.

Reality-wise, I guess Top Chef fits the bill. Still in my Top 3 competition shows with Survivor and AR, but only gets a fraction of the love those ones do on this board.
