Re: Best New Show of 2013
I'm trying to think a season where we had so much quality shows starting. Maybe 2010?
2010: Terriers, Boardwalk Empire, Archer, Louie, Treme, Justified, Sherlock
2011: Game of Thrones, Homeland, Downtown Abbey, New Girl, Bob's Burgers,

I like The Returned on Sundance a LOT, and I'm enjoying Masters of Sex too (although I don't give it the rave reviews most of you on here do).
Bottom line though is that I like to laugh, and Brooklyn Nine Nine is providing that in spades.

The animals, the animals
Trapped, trapped, trapped 'till the cage is full!
Orange is the New Black is easily the best. Brooklyn 99 is pretty good as well. I also enjoyed Orphan Black.
Not on this poll:
House of Cards is a close second to OitNB and belongs on this poll.
I haven't seen it, but I hear good things about Ray Donovan.
Banshee was OK, but ultimately didn't hold my interest.
I have the entire first season of DaVinci's Demons and Defiance on my DVR. Is either/both worth watching?

Re: Best New Show of 2013
I love Orphan Black, Bates Motel, Brooklyn Nine Nine, House of Cards, The Americans, Masters of Sex, The Bridge and Orange is the New Black. I like Sleepy Hollow, The Blacklist and Almost Human. However, I voted for HANNIBAL. It is off the charts good in a way that network TV hasn't been in years - it is the MAD MEN of murder shows. A great first season and hopefully more people will discover the brilliance of it in season 2.

Hannibal
Masters of Sex
Honorable mentions to Brooklyn 9-9 (still finding its way) and Orange Is The New Black (liked it, but not still not 'wow'-ed by it).
Maybe I'll try an episode of The Blacklist over the holidays.

Has anyone seen Black Mirror? Apparently it just started to show in the states about a month ago on DirectTV? They are saying it is a modern Twilight Zone.

I still have full seasons of The Bridge, Hell on Wheels, Low Winter Sun, and Person of Interest (may delete this as well) on my dvr, so I still have plenty to watch.

Well, this along with no one listing it as one of the best new shows is probably a sign I should delete it from my dvr. I only watched the first episode and wasn't too impressed.

Surprised to see Almost Human getting so many responses. This had "cancelled at the mid-season finale" written all over it from the previews. Although to be fair, so did Agents of SHIELD.

You can skip ahead to the last four or five. It's getting better. It did start out awful, and nothing happened that you won't pick up from the context/expository dialog from later episodes.

Orange Is The New Black would be my third choice. A difficult watch sometime but far better than I thought it would be.

Maureen Ryan with Huffpo lists her favorite new shows of the year:

I can't recall the last time I drew up a Best New Shows of the Year list. I'm not even sure I've written one before.
But 2013 certainly deserves a list paying tribute to the newcomers that blazed across our screens. There was so much fine new programming of so many different kinds that I'd be remiss if I didn't draw attention to at least some of it. The sad fact is, I didn't get to every new scripted show that premiered (online or elsewhere) -- not for lack of trying -- but I did get to a fair bit of it. And I couldn't resist celebrating all that's new and exciting about TV because after all that's one of the main reasons I love this gig.
