It was the 2nd number I memorized as a kindergartener after my telephone number :) Still have an old NES and bust it out a couple times a year.

While I love Paulie Walnuts as the voice of Vinnie, they do need to bring Brian back...but they sure have got the internet talking about it.

Part of me wonders if this is for the upcoming movie that might be something like "The Return of Brian"

As an aside loved/hated the joke about screwing over the fans with "volume" sets instead of seasons.

He did the same thing in the Person of Interest thread last week.

Whether or not it's sarcasm, no one should get into a fucking TV show thread and expect to not read spoilers after the episode airs.

I'm doubting this will be permanent
unless they plan on ending the show this season

brian and stewie are pretty much all this show has left on a regular basis. Peter is just stupid at this point, meg is nothing but the butt of ugly jokes, chris and lois never really did much
even stewie isn't as good as he used to be

Yeah I agree. Brian and Stewie and a few of the side characters are the only things that make the show worth watching anymore. Peter is just too stupid, and to me it's not like Homer on The Simpsons who is a dumbass yet lovable he's just plain stupid as all hell and not even really a likable character. Meg basically is useless to the show and pretty much non-existant. I really am surprised the writers haven't found a way to just write her out, maybe not kill her but just have her go away somehow. Chris and Lois are okay in small doses but I wouldn't really say that either of them make the show worth watching.

Maybe they'll bring Brian back the way they brought back James Woods.

Or it was all just a simulation, like when Stewie died, or when the only ones left on the planet were Peter, Brain, Quagmire and Joe

“Special Announcement From Brian” Follows ‘Family Guy’ Pooch Passing

By LISA DE MORAES, TV Columnist | Tuesday November 26, 2013 @ 6:47am PST
Tags: Brian death, Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane

Did grieving Family Guy viewers get punked by Seth MacFarlane and gang? Did 20th TV fake Brian’s death to sell Brian merchandise during the holiday buying season and goose the show’s ratings? Two days after the “shocking” death of the animated show’s talking dog Brian, a countdown clock has appeared, that promises a “special announcement from Brian” on the way — in 10 days and counting at time of posting — with the suggestion same grieving viewers should “spread the word.”

Family Guy fans mourned/expressed skepticism yesterday over the November sweep death-by-car of Brian, going so far as to launch a petition to resurrect the pooch. Though Brian was buried by the Griffins in the episode, some fans were suspicious. After all, Stewie could use that temporarily-out-of-order time machine with which he and Brian averted a cataclysmic 9/11-like event in the controversial 2011 episode to bring Brian back from the dead. Yes, the family ran right out and got themselves a new dog, voiced by The Sopranos alum Tony Sirico, who’s been was tapped for six episodes, possibly more. Cynics might note Brian has been one of Family Guy‘s most popular characters, and along with Stewie, the show’s top merchandise property. Oh, and the comedy’s ratings are down double digits compared to last season, though Family Guy’s hardly the only show in that position this season. Asked about plans to bring Brian back, Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reported 20th TV gave her a “no comment,” at the same time she noted 20th TV would reap financial reward from the inevitable spike in sales of Brian-themed toys and other collectibles with his death, which may have been the actual answer.
This is honestly a pretty brilliant play by Fox/MacFarlane and company. I don't think too many people realized how attached they were to that animated pooch

This is the first time in awhile the show has been in the news, so it totally was a great move. Thinking back, nobody would've given a crap if anyone other than Stewie, Peter, or Brian had bit the bullet so it makes sense.

I'm sure he'll be back, but the show definitely got exposure it hasn't in a long time.

Has Family Guy been suffering from lower ratings lately? What a stupid gimmick. The only way this pays off is if Brian never returns in anything other than flashbacks.

It's tapered off over the past few seasons. It was averaging 10M+, but it teeters between 2.5-4M avg now.

I go back and forth between sincerely loving this show, and being passively apologetic.

Liked this episode a lot. It was heartbreaking when I realized it was almost the end, and they weren't going to bring back Brian. I'd get used to a no-Brian Family Guy. It all comes down to how good the ongoing episodes are. If he really is gone, it'd be the end to an era for the show.

So far, Brian's replacement felt like a throw away character. That's probably why I feel skeptical about how long Brian's death is going to last.

Wow I didn't realize the drop was that much. I knew that it wasn't as big as it was for a while like it was after it was first brought back but didn't know the decline was that drastic.

This show definitely is very hit and miss. There are times when it's full force and has me laughing the entire time and hardly any jokes miss but there are times when I can barely stand watching it. The problem to me is sometimes it seems to try too hard to try and be controversial or make risque jokes just for the sake of it and they either work or just fail completely. Also a lot of the characters just aren't likable to me at all. Brian and Stewie are the main family members I like. Quagmire and Joe are both pretty decent and sometimes Adam West can be pretty funny too. Those are probably my favorite recurring characters and there are some pretty decent side characters from time to time.

I don't want to over-exaggerate; I had to double-check the numbers. The Wiki page has a good setup of what the average is per season, and although it does go down, it hasn't gone down by a whole lot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Guy#Ratings

I was thrown off between the season premiere and then finale ratings over the years, as Season 9 alone is half the audience... although I guess that's not taken in to account. The highest rated episode of the show was 11.85M, and it's gone down reasonably steady for a show that's now in its 12th season.

It seems to see-saw with The Simpsons for highest rated animated program on Sundays, but the numbers aren't close to what it once was.

If anything, the show is a little more even in its comedy these days. The days of never-ending jokes and random nonsense are mostly gone. I'd believe Brian's death was genuine if the replacement character didn't feel like such a Poochy. Does Cleveland ever make it back since his show was canceled?
