Re: Reign (The CW) -- Season 2 Thread -- Starts 10/2/14
Anyone still following Reign except me? The ratings have taken a dive this year, though some blame the Vampire Diaries' slide for that. The show hasn't really slid in quality, though they have tried to ground some of its drama in more historical truths than last season. I wonder if the history lesson is turning some viewers off that were attracted to the teen romances of season one?
I would have posted more regularly to the thread but I only caught up with the season last week. They've delved far more into the Catholic vs Protestant conflict than I imagined.

Huzzah, Reign was renewed today for a third season! The ratings haven't been that good but the show has maintained a semblance of quality.

I'm roughly 4 episodes behind, but it's been a solid season. Not surprised this type of show isn't really a draw here. It's probably cheaper for The CW to keep the show on the air, since it's shot in Canada, gets the tax credits and already has millions of dollars of sets and costumes ready, than cancel it, tear everything down, lose money and then develop a new show. I'm betting the streaming deals with Netflix and Hulu were big helps for Reign and possibly UK viewership.
The Facebook page has slightly over 820,000 likes. There is a fanbase out there, although small.

Re: Reign (The CW) -- Season 2 Thread -- Starts 10/2/14
Reign has been the second-most consistent show on The CW this year after the Flash's dynamite rookie season. They balance an ensemble and rotating cast of familiar characters far better than shows like The Originals and Vampire Diaries.
The way they've weaved disparate plot threads and tied them together shows careful planning. Reign also hasn't made any mistakes in casting.
I finally got to catch up with the latest batch of episodes. Greer has been thrown from the aristocracy and become a tentative madam for prostitutes.

They are taking Mary's marriage in a far different direction than I expected this season. I guess this was why they went there with the rape plot.
It's pretty funny that Greer is now a madam running a brothel.
