Liked it well enough to tune in again. Interesting that they turned it in some unexpected directions. Having Stephen go to work at the end was unexpected and I thought John was going to end up being Jed's son.

In theory then, the aspiring tv-writer could have been exposed to X-men comicbooks before he submitted his script ideas in the early 70s. Having displaced one of my several points I must assume that you agree with the others.

If not, maybe you could watch the show on youtube and say what you think as to the presentation of the concept i.e. do you believe that they are similar.

If it is more the basic concept you are talking about - and the presentation is not at all important to you - in all fairness you should consider whether the concept of kids/teens developing psi-powers predates Marvel/Atlas.

Without even thinking too long and hard about it, I seem to recall the novel "The Midwich Cuckoos" written by Brit author John Wyndham and published 1957. This was first filmed in 1960 as "Village of the Damned" although I think it may have been titled different in UK/US.

Of course there are differences between TMC and X-Men, just as I would say that there were significant differences between X-Men and TTP. But, if we are only considering who originated the concept of (a group of) youngsters with psi-powers, then it seems only fair to credit John Wyndham as having done it earlier and so exerted an influence - and then maybe all the other people attuned to the 50s and 60s Zeitgeist who no doubt did something similar in short stories, novels etc (Bester, Van Vogt, McCaffrey, Shiras etc. etc)... Maybe Roger Price also read Children of the Atom/The Hiding Place...

Or, as I said, we could always agree to differ.

It's not that I disagree with you but I just wanted to point out it was possible the X-Men could have influenced TTP. I could take it into another direction and say it wasn't the X-Men but the Doom Patrol that influenced him instead. Same basic premise but done months earlier than X-Men and the theory goes that the X-Men is a Doom Patrol rip off. Anything is possible.
