Well, the title is encouraging. I'm tired of the whole Red John arc.

That arc is the very heart of the whole series; without Red John, there's no reason for Jane to continue at the CBI.

Owain and Amanda leaving the show is really sad, because Rigsby and Van Pelt are my favorites after Jane and Lisbon.

This could radically affect the character dynamics, too. Cho and Rigsby were always trying to "one-up" each other, while Lisbon treated Van Pelt almost like a sister.

This sounds like it will be a great season..Are Owain and Amanda during the season or have they already left? That's too bad either way, I also like those characters.

Mid Season. Possibly right around the time the Red John arc ends.

Both.

I too will be annoyed. To be positive though, I am glad they are wrapping up the storyline in a planned way, not in a "we just got cut, and have 40 minutes left to work with" way.

If they have an entire season to wrap it up, and they cop out and make it Rigsby and/or Van Pelt... they can definitely bite me lol.

I just hope Cho's character lands on Agents of Shield or the Blacklist.

So Patrick shoots Red John and then strangles him to death.

Interesting end to this saga.

With this arc over, I guess we're now waiting to see what happens to Rigsby and Van Pelt. Now they're married and about to leave the show.

Has it been picked up for another season? I'm a few episodes behind but I assumed this was the last season.

wow... um... just an overall disappointment after all the buildup. That was the issue, they'd built Red John up so much, to be so powerful, that the ultimate reveal could never live up to the expectations.

Would like to know how he knew the list. I was expecting some kind of
Spoiler:
Fight Club type reveal

probably didn't need to spoiler that, but you never know who has seen what movies.

The scene in the earlier season with Bradley Whitford was MUUUUUUUUUUUCH better.

it did not help that even in the big reveal they fell back on yet one more "fake out" move.. I don't mind a huge story arc across a few seasons but this show fell back on "It's Red John! Wait.. no it's not" as a story line way, way too much.. They could not even make it past what should be the final Red John ep with out dragging out that poor "fake out" dead horse and beating it yet again..

but it will be interesting to see where the show goes from here..

I wish they pulled out the original head of CBI from the first few seasons (the VP from 24) and made him Red John. That would have been great.

I prefer to believe that Whitford really was Red John, but after his death the group decided to keep the myth alive. Perhaps so few people knew his identity that it was easy to get them to go along.

I think they made it where Jane says he doesn't care how he found out about the list because they had no way to actually explain it. Complete letdown after all this time, it should have been as amazing as finding out who killed Laura Palmer. Instead we get something almost as lame as the last episode of Lost.

I really hate the new FBI format. It just doesn't feel right. I felt the same way about Unforgettable when they changed it up.

I don't hate it yet, but I agree it doesn't feel right. And the reveal was too predictable. I did like Cho giving Lisbon orders since he is now the senior agent.

I don't mind the change, so far it feels fresh. We'll see how it continues. I like the female FBI agent, and I like seeing Cho kicking ass.

Agree it was predictable, i called it for my wife not even midway through.

Re: The Mentalist (CBS) -- Red John: The Final Chapter -- Series Thread

the show needed a shot in the arm. not sure this is the right direction, but doing more of the same after Red John would have been an even bigger mistake.
