I remember the episode, but can't remember her in particular. I would like to see it again just to see her.

Law and Order SVU : 10/04/05

Damnit if I didn't tear up a little at the end.

Great episode. A little over the top (a 'only on tv' element snuck in there at the end)...but still quite good.

Hargitay wants that Emmy.

MR ROBOTO 9000 10-04-05 10:49 PM

Best show on right now, imo.
At the start I thought this would turn into the typical "Where is she? We are out of time" bla-bla-bla..But man, this show just keeps getting better and better.

conscience 10-04-05 10:54 PM

 - that's what it was, though - just better.

Spicollidriver1 10-04-05 10:55 PM

This was a good episode, but I find it hard to believe the guy just didn't kill her at the end instead of just burying her. I was hoping she was gonna pick that little table up and hit him with it. But the elbow in the face was just as great. I honestly want Christopher Meloni to stay but more Fin and Munch(huge Belzer fan) would defininetly make up for it. I have been watching all Law and Orders from day one so cast leaving bothers me at first, but I can live with it in the end. Except of cours Jerry Orbach.

I agree

Her elbowing the guy in the face was great

Plus it was nice to have an episode without Stabler

Phil L. 10-04-05 11:18 PM

Yeah this was a pretty cool episode.
Just a bit of a cop out at the end with the girl (although being completely buried) ending up being found alive. She also looked in really great shape for having gone through all that.
If this was a show on FX, the girl probably would have been found dead, but I guess NBC still feels it's necessary to go for the feel good ending.

I was also wishing for Jack Bauer (or for him to bring in Richardson) when the suspect was asking for a lawyer. This was clearly a case when the guy needed to be persuaded to give up the location of the girl.

This is the first time I've seen this show from beginning to end. Good stuff.

I thought this was the best Law and Order episode I've ever seen. When she was on the phone I was just so hooked, then I thought it would get stupid at the end, but I liked how they did it.

I bought into the live burying thing because the dude knew he was being traced by the cops so he would have wanted her (and the clothes) out of there ASAP. In a couple of the recent child molestation cases, the kids were determined to have been buried alive so it is realistic enough. Guess one could have expected him to be so enraged about her calling the cops that he kills her, but this dude was so organized and composed that it was pretty in character.

Its true that she would have been way closer to death and probably would need hospitalization to regain consciousness, but that didnt feel like a major plot hole to me...

Daniel-A 10-05-05 01:45 AM

Honestly I didn't like that she lived. Not that I wanted her to die, just that it wasn't plausible. I also think the ending could have been more powerful. I don't like the old addage where kids, and the elderly are too good to die.

side note: thismeansyou85 the Travellin' Man remix by DJ Honda is my favorite hip hop song of all time.

ShallowHal 10-05-05 01:54 AM

I thought it was good, but they hyped it as much more with all that Emmy talk. The last two minutes were a bit much- Finn finding the burnt wood scrap in the dirt from the dude's shoe was a huge leap, IMO.

Plus, I'm a huge dub hater. When Fin was walking up the stairs and Much said "Detective Tutuola, care to look at some child porn?", the camera went right to Belzer's face and his lips were clearly not moving.

OT- is Meloni leaving?

lisadoris 10-05-05 11:55 AM

Good episode overall. It was nice to have more Fin and Munch (the mini conversation about Spamalot was a nice touch). Finding the girl alive was a bit of a stretch but it was such an intense episode that having her die would have been a bit much. Gotta love the elbow move though.

CPT: next week we get a Meloni ep so I don't think he's going anywhere.

NORML54601 10-05-05 08:00 PM

I also dug Munch & Finn having more on screen time and agree the girl should have been dead. Still a very good ep.

Supermallet 10-05-05 08:39 PM

The elbow to the face was awesome. But I also wish the kid had been dead.

And I also think Meloni might be trying to leave, going out Mike Logan style (which means that in 10 years he'll end up on CI  ).

I think the line was "Care to soil your soul with some child porn?" But it felt a little out of place.

Good ep though.

Red Dog 10-06-05 08:50 AM

I had heard so much about this episode in advance (basically that it was supposed to be Mariska's Emmy submission) that I was sure I was going to be disappointed. Surprisingly, I wasn't. I thought it was very well done.

Cusm 10-06-05 09:36 AM

She did not look good in her close ups on HD, scary!

I was thinking the same thing while watching. I'm surprised she agreed to that tight of a close up shot.

Daniel-A 10-06-05 11:40 AM

I never thought she looked good. Whoever decided she should portray herself as someone pretty was wrong. She's one of the actresses that needs to get by on her acting chops alone.

Supermallet 10-06-05 07:05 PM

Hey, I think Mariska still looks pretty good. She was never as pretty as her mother, but then again, she still has her head. ;)

conscience 10-06-05 08:11 PM

She definitely looks better now than she did with the short hair. Her face is too 'sharp' to have short hair anyway.

Her mom was a major babe, though.

movieking 10-07-05 07:39 AM

Okay episode. Not great, IMO.

I think Hargitay is okay looking, nothing special.

superman69 10-11-05 10:40 PM

okay for starters, the wife and i just finished this episode (a week later, aren't DVR's amazing technology), one thing i looked for in here was the same feeling the espisode gave me (seen some familiar names Suprmallet and NORM) but back to the episode, I for one am not too big on Olivia (who is her mom btw), i like Stabler the most, his character is the reason i watch the show (like munch and Tu as well) but i wouldve loved him in this episode because he would've acted on all the rage and how furious i felt. Child molestation is a subject that puts me over the edge, while i loved Olivia's elbow, i still think he needed the piss beaten outta him more. i was hopin Tu would do it, but........... i can settle for the elbow drop i guess.
