Announced over on the Gallifrey Base forum, An Adventure in Space and Time is no longer a part of the 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray release (UK release 12/2). The docudrama will be released sometime next year on it's own.

I think it's down to the length and disc space. Including AAISAT would've necessitated 2 discs, I'm told, and they want to keep this to 1.

I'm kinda surprised that they were originally announced as being packaged together; I would've figured An Adventure in Space and Time was worthy of a standalone release.

Simulataneous broadcast across multuiple nations...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24362794

The 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who will be broadcast simultaneously in more than 70 countries.

The Day of the Doctor, which will star the current Doctor Matt Smith and his predecessor David Tennant, will also be shown in more than 200 UK cinemas.

So far TV networks in 75 countries have agreed to air the show on 23 November.

Tim Davie, chief executive of BBC Worldwide, said he hoped to to take "appointment viewing" to "another level".

"In its 50th anniversary year, we wanted to create a truly international event for Doctor Who fans in as many countries as possible," he continued.

"The simultaneous broadcast and cinema screening of the special across so many countries will make for a fitting birthday tribute to our Time Lord."

Smith and Tennant will appear in the 75-minute episode alongside John Hurt, introduced as 'The Doctor' at the end of the last instalment broadcast.

"The Doctor has always been a time traveller," said executive producer Steven Moffat. "Now he's travelling time zones."

The BBC has announced a raft of programmes to celebrate the anniversary of the much-loved sci-fi staple.

Highlights include a BBC Two lecture by Professor Brian Cox on the science behind the show and An Adventure in Space and Time, a drama by Mark Gatiss about the show's inaugural episode.
Nice to see that it is an extended episode and that we may all be watching it together!

Apropos of nothing, David Bradley, the guy who is playing Hartnell in An Adventure in Time & Space sat immediately behind me a few months ago at a small stand-up comedy gig in Manchester. The promoter/compere is a big Who fan, involved in some Who-DVD audio-commentary work, podcasts, and two acclaimed Who-related one-man shows - and had probably met him through "work" and invited him along.

So 70 countries are airing it on the same day, but not necessarily at the same time. I'm guessing most countries will be airing it at local prime-time. I wonder if it'll air first in the UK or somewhere else.

BBC America has released some news as well:
http://www.bbcamerica.com/anglopheni...rsary-special/
In addition [to the Nov 23 broadcast of the special], BBC AMERICA will be dedicating an entire week to Doctor Who in November, including the new film An Adventure in Space and Time, marathons and new specials to be announced.

Re: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebrations/Special

Jay G., the special will be premiering at the same time as the UK in at least 75 countries, per the BBC Ameica press release you linked:

"From the U.S. to the UK, Canada to Colombia, Brazil to Botswana and Myanmar to Mexico, fans in at least 75 countries spanning six continents will be able to enjoy the episode at the same time as the UK, with more countries expected to be confirmed within the next month."

I'm sure many of these countries/networks, including BBC America, will re-air the special in primetime.

I wonder if BBC America found a company to sponsor a commercial free broadcast on Saturday afternoon to generate some ad revenue from the premiere? I realize BBC America can't wait until 8pm now that 75+ countries are airing it at the same time as the UK, but the ad revenue from a full primetime commercial broadcast would have been quite significant (this could be BBC America's highest single-telecast ever).

Also, BBC America is premiering Atlantis on November 23. I wonder if the channel will have a "sneak preview premiere" (in a 1-hour slot, with normal commercials) right after the Who premiere Saturday afternoon, then repeat both shows in primetime?

Re: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebrations/Special

It seems that some more lost episodes have been found...

BBC Worldwide is expected to confirm the find at a press screening in London later this week.
EDIT: Curses! And I did a search on "Doctor"... but in the wrong forum, it seems!

Re: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebrations/Special

Wait....nevermind they preempted the implosion by shutting down the missing episodes thread. Wonder if this find has anything to do with those wild rumors of dozens of episodes found. This is getting interesting. And what great news for the 50th anniversary!
Looks like the official announcement will be Thursday. Rumors are that it is a substantial amount of lost episodes. Oh my god!!!!!!!

Re: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebrations/Special

So the news about the missing episodes is that 9 were recovered. All of The Enemy of the World has been restored, while all but episode 3 of Web of Fear has been recovered. These are going to be put on sale on iTunes Friday morning.

Regarding the Anniversary Special, BBC America may have accidentally given up the airtime:
http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2013/10...013093008.html
BBC America inadvertently revealed a potential time of broadcast for the 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, when they updated their advance schedules for November online. The (provisional) details indicated that after a week-long celebration of the series, it would premiere on 23rd November at 2:45pm Eastern time, meaning a UK broadcast of the 75-minute special would occupy a prime-time slot at 7:45pm (possibly after Strictly Come Dancing in such a scenario).

However, BBC America have confirmed that the schedule for the week leading up to the anniversary has yet to be finalised, and that the broadcast mentioned above is currently only a 'placeholder' until the BBC lock the exact time down - the BBC themselves are unlikely to confirm such a definite time until much closer to the date (which could be a lead time of just ten days before broadcast!)

As well as episodes and documentaries, other programming planned by BBC America over the course of the week includes: the US premiere of An Adventure in Space and Time (provisionally scheduled for Friday 22nd November at 9:00pm, and not expected to be simulcast with BBC2 in the UK!); Explaining Doctor Who, which UK channel Watch have scheduled for 12th October as part of their Doctor Who Revisited launch day; and other 'talking-head' items including Tales from the TARDIS and a special 15-minute Day of the Doctor Pre-Show (the provisional schedule indicated 7:00pm on the Saturday before a prime-time repeat of the episode).

As noted, all schedules are subject to change.

Re: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebrations/Special

For anyone wanting to participate even more in all this 50th anniversary reminiscing you could do worse than seek out long-time fan Toby Hadoke's podcasts ("Who's Round") in which he interviews one-by-one a large number of participants from past shows.

There's a link to the Big Finish page where these are freely available in one of my earlier posts.

He has a blog somewhere where he goes into more detail regarding his anecdote-collecting task.

(I suppose this is more akin to radio than tv so is somewhat off-topic).

If anyone is interested, Big Finish has released their 50th anniversary story, The Light at the End, today. I pre-ordered it back in February and am downloading it now.

There's theaters near me for the 11/25 show, but no point in doing it if it's not the simulcast.

Unsurprisingly, there are no such showings planned for Puerto Rico (duh) so I'll just have to wait to see this when my BD copy arrives.

It looks like the Cinemark site is now selling tickets for the simulcast, but it is either sold out or the listing isn't active until 9 AM, because I am being told there aren't enough tickets left to buy even one.

Because the only reason I'd want to see it in the theater is to see it for the first time with an audience also experiencing it for the first time. Not with a crowd who watched it two days ago.

Not a big deal. I'll still watch it on November 23rd live, but from my living room.

Well, son of a bitch, I didn't notice that it was 9 AM ET. They couldn't possibly have made it 9 AM local time, since I would have had to wake up at 6 AM to get tickets. Sons of bitches.
