Yes. Season one is slow, like Babylon 5 season one level slow. But even then there are so many throwbacks to season one later in the series that it is worth it. Just be wary of season one....alot of my friends gave up because it was so slow. They really missed out, you shouldn't.

Another thing to keep in mind about the slowness of S1 is that all episodes run 50 minutes instead of 44. Fox was doing a "less commercials" promotion that season, where some of its shows had fewer commercials, and more content, during the hour.
I think S1 and the first half of S2 are somewhat slow, but still enjoyable television (better than most junk on the air today). You can tell the producers were trying to make Fringe like X-Files in S1 -- several standalone cases, a mythology episode, several more standalone cases, another mythology episode, etc. While I enjoyed the standalone cases, the mythology episodes were fantastic, and that's what I really wanted to see.
