4 episodes left in the final season and I doubt anything meaningful happens tonight.

Kind of lame that they have used this song as the title of one of the last episodes. It might be alright if this show was the first to use the song.

Looking forward to it. The season has gone by really fast and can't believe only four episodes of the series are left. I've enjoyed the season despite not feeling like a grand finale really. Hopefully the final four episodes bring more closure.

I really like Dexter but feel that the writers should have had a better overall plan from the beginning. They might have had a particular ending in mind when they started but it seems like there are way too many hoops to jump through to get there.

Problem is that it went through three showrunners, and also the head writer left after season 4.

It seems like they had certain things in mind but didn't necessarily always know the best ways of getting to those ideas. Truthfully the series would have been stronger if it was more like six seasons or so. I think that everyone got kind of taken away with the ratings the series was getting and kept it going longer which made the stories suffer a bit.

I said it in last week's thread too but I still think that The Bay Harbor Butcher storyline was done way too early. If it were me I'd have had that storyline be the second to last season and the final year be the fallout from that/wrapping up the series.

They were definitely going down the road of Deb figuring out Dexter through police work over time but abandoned that.

The stupidest thing that the show did in my opinion was having Deb find out about Dexter through her going to meet him to tell him she was in love with him. That whole storyline to me was just awful and I don't understand who ever thought it was a good idea.

Agree.

Tonights episode was a real snoozer. And the previews for the final three episodes look uber lame.

if we didn't know already, after seeing the first 9 and that preview for the last 3 would anybody say "This feels like it's heading towards a series finale."?

Yeah I finally did the reverse. Looking forward to Breaking Bad in ten minutes. And then something in between with The Newsroom after that.

Although it was good to see Kenny Johnston, hopefully he'll have some more stuff going on in the next few episodes.

I'm starting to turn on this season. It would be a decent season if we didn't know it was the last. I'm sure I'm the only one that thinks so but I still think there are ways to end this that can still redeem it all. We'll see.

Anyway, the best part of this episode was seeing Lem. Pretty much in the same bad ass cop role too.

It's pretty cool seeing actors in multiple shows you watch, in this case Lem. He also had a season arc on Burn Notice.

Anyway I had a friend tell me that Hannah McKay was only scheduled to appear in 4 episodes...that was obviously not true, whatever source that came from. From the preview she'll be in the next one and there's no reason to believe at this point that she won't be in the final 2.

I knew he looked familiar! It's been quite a while since watching The Shield... should have recognized him though!

How did this plotline get approved by Showtime executives? It is shockingly lame for a final season of one of their tentpole shows.

Because Oliver saxon is an amazing villain.

Re: Dexter -- "Make Your Own Kind of Music" -- 8/25/13

I dunno I still really don't have that much of a problem with this season I guess. It's really not all that bad it just lacks what you would expect out of a final season. For the most part the episodes have been fairly strong though I think.

I liked tonight's episode pretty well. It was predictable throughout the season that there was more to Vogel than met the eye and I guess tonight finally proved that. I don't quite understand her motivation though for wanting to come back into Dexter's life and seemingly help him only to betray him. Obviously it was to gain his trust so that her son could take care of him but I don't quite understand the extent of why she wants that done.

The final three episodes look like they could be decent and I am curious as to how it plays out.

I think there were some good ideas this season. The problem is that the fast paced nature of the show makes them cram in a bunch of lame ideas and, in the end, we get frustrated. As much as I like Kenny Johnson, his character is filler for these last few episodes.

I guess I sort of expected this season to be on par with the last few seasons so I'm not really disappointed at this point. The ending will be the deciding factor of whether it was worth the time investment.

Did I miss something? I thought Vogel was pretty straightforward in saying she thought her son was dead. The only reason she is going against Dexter now is that her son is alive and Dexter is trying to kill him. Dexter as a "spiritual son" is an obsolete concept for her. I didn't see anything that suggested that she was staging the whole thing from the beginning.

No you didn't, just speculation on my part. She says that but I kind of think she's full of shit. I could be wrong but a lot of The Brain Surgeon stuff just seemed too convenient for her to not have known.

She actually was in danger from the son though. He did think that Vogel had sent Dexter, and Dexter's visit to her house was what convinced the son otherwise.

Worst kept secret that Cassie's boyfriend was the Brain Surgeon.

The reveal that he's Vogel's son was interesting.

and wow, Yvonne looked really sexy in that Pink dress.

I liked seeing Kenny Johnson, but this late in the game, he almost feels like a filler/extraneous character like Cassie that isn't going to be significant to the ending.

No way Dex leaves Miami. Something will blow up in his face to screw up that plan.

Why was there tension when Lem asked Harrison about who the girl was in his drawing? It wouldnt have been a bad thing if he said Hannah since she dated his dad.
