"Rambo: New Blood" in development, Sylvester Stallone executive producing

Entertainment One has completed a co-development deal with Avi Lerner and Nu Image to develop and produce a TV series based on action film “Rambo.”

Sylvester Stallone, who starred in the “Rambo” film franchise in the ’80s, is in negotiations to be involved with the “Rambo” TV skein on a creative level as well as potentially reprising his role as the original John Rambo. Stallone has remarked to the press repeatedly in recent years that he is interested in reviving the franchise and character.

“Rambo” films, based on David Morrell’s novel “First Blood,” center on a troubled Vietnam War vet and former Green Beret who is skilled in aspects of survival, weaponry, hand-to-hand combat and guerrilla warfare. Franchise launched four films over two and a half decades.

Under the eOne and Nu Image deal, the partners will develop the series and shop to networks Stateside and abroad.

“I’m happy to be partnering with a prolific company like Entertainment One who has a track record of creating high quality programming for their broadcast partners around the world,” commented Lerner, an action movie vet who has produced “Rambo” pics. “And I’m excited by the prospect of collaborating again with my good friend Sly for an encore in this next phase of the Rambo legacy.”

Well that came out of nowhere. But I would watch it, if Sly is involved.

Sounds like something that would revolutionize TV.

I hope it's a sitcom where Rambo runs a quaint B&B in Vermont that showcases all of the hilarious quirky hijinx that small town life has to offer.

If they set it after Rambo 4 and he is back home trying to re-adjust, and run into some conflict, it may could work.

The final episode should be Rambo waking up back in Vietman in a Viet Cong bamboo cage to discover the whole thing was just a dream!

I hope this doesn't end up on network TV and I certainly hope they don't dumb down the premise. I've never seen more carnage than Rambo 4 --- it was gruesome at the end. This is the Rambo we want and deserve... not Rambo and his mortgage issues.

I'm hearing the TV theme song to The Incredible Hulk in my head right now...

The success of this all depends on the concept and format of the show...and who will be the antagonist from week to week. I can envision them doing something similar to having David Banner go from town to town, but that would get old.

I'd prefer they cast a young Rambo and base the show around his time in Vietnam.

I can't imagine what a TV show is going to do with Sly as an older Rambo. I certainly don't see this being anything close to the last Rambo movie.

I'm having a hard time picturing how this would play out as a series. Perhaps a mystery/crime of the week structure? Regardless, agree a logical starting point would be to pick up where part 4 ended.

Not if they write it so he is looking for a one-armed man who killed his wife...

It could work - just need to change the lyrics a bit....

"It's a long road....when you own a home....."

The only way I can figure it out is if it's a flashback series that deals with John Rambo being trained in the military and going to Vietnam - with Stallone bookending or introducing each episode in the present day (they bring him in for a day or two of filming - they've got enough footage for the entire season).

Yeah I can't see this really happening. At least I can't see it happening with Stallone involved because I doubt he'd want to be the lead of a series. Unless like someone else said Stallone is just used for bookends.

No. That's not it.

He wakes up next to a woman and says this:

"Uhhh Yo I had the weirdest dream, I just kept shooting everything"

"Go back to sleep Rocky..."

Bad news:

"While a television series based on the Rambo property is in development with Entertainment One and Nu Image, contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone will certainly not reprise his role as the iconic John Rambo for the small screen."

That will most certainly be it. I bet Stallone only cameos during the beginning of the pilot episode as he reminisces of his ordeals in Vietnam. No way Stallone signs as the lead of an entire season of television.
