Re: What TV Series Is Worth A Buy ?
It's tough to put a value on "worth buying" these days.
I have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus so at the very least I have Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, Mad Men, The Killing, Parenthood, Bob's Burgers, The Office, Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama, The League, Rescue Me, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, Louie, Wilfred, Weeds, Fringe, Arrested Development, Raising Hope, Prison Break, 24, Sherlock, Archer, Top Gear, Damages, How I Met Your Mother, My Name is Earl, Vampire Diaries, Switched at Birth, Supernatural, Jericho, White Collar, Cheers, Awake, Burn Notice, Psych, Malcolm in the Middle, King of the Hill, Everybody Loves Raymond, Frasier, The West Wing, The IT Crowd, Scrubs, Spaced, Better Off Ted, Columbo, The X-files, The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, Dowton Abbey, Suits, Justified, The Good Wife, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, The Shield, Modern Family, The Wonder Years, etc; at my finger tips whenever I want, ask again when the streaming model collapses.

Using those services is more of 'renting' though. I'm talking about buying disc or digital download.
Netflix and the like is much like just catching stuff on TV since you already pay for cable.
Anyone into buying shows like Big Brother or Survivor?

Point being it devalues whats "worth buying" since I'm not going to buy a show I have full access to at any time. That's all.
Was never big into reality competition shows.

Re: What TV Series Is Worth A Buy ?
I have Survivor on my watchlist; bought the official DVDs and have been (very) slowly buying the up Amazon burn-on-demand discs (very good quality, by the way); seasons in HD or ones that haven't been released on disc yet I've acquired through other means.
Survivor strangely enough offers quite a bit of replay value for me; while I know the winner beforehand and remember the big moments, I often forget which games were played, which alliances were formed, which strategies were used, the boot order, the early blindsides, etc. And since they seem intent on constantly bringing back old players, it's interesting to go back and watch their earlier seasons to see how they played the game.
Other reality shows I'm not sure I have much interest in rewatching--maybe "Top Chef." Survivor just has some kind of magic blend of various elements that appeal to me.

Also oddly, I've watched every season live after the first, and while I started the first on DVD, I've never finished it. The action seemed slow compared to the current game. But I'll go back to it someday.
Top Chef I've rewatched a bit. Amazing Race, American Idol, and Food Network Star are the other major competitions I watch, and I don't rewatch those.
