Re: Warner Bros. is working on a Gotham PD inspired television series set in "Nolanve

Even people who commented on the source link said it was B.S.

With Jonathan Nolan writing and producing for Person of Interest, he wouldn't have time to tackle this.

Re: Warner Bros. is working on a Gotham PD inspired television series

EXCLUSIVE: In one of the biggest drama deals this season, after a bidding war, Fox has landed Gotham, from Warner Bros. TV and The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller, with a series commitment. For Gotham, Warner Bros TV is mining one of DC Comics‘ most popular character universes, Batman. It explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous. In Gotham, Gordon is still a detective with the Gotham City Police Department and is yet to meet Batman who will not be part of the series. The Gordon character was introduced in 1939 in the very first Batman comic. Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, Commissioner Gordon has appeared in comic books as well as Batman films and series, including in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy where he was played by Gary Oldman. Along with the Superman franchise, the Batman universe is probably the most prized DC property. While Superman spawned the long-running series Smallville, this is the first series featuring a character from the world of Batman in a very long time as WBTV had been exploring a Gotham City-set show for more than a year. It is the second high-profile WBTV/DC drama in the works for next season, along with Flash at the CW. In addition to Gotham, WME-repped Heller has Mars drama Red at the CW. Gotham joins CBS’ sci-fi drama Extant as the two hottest drama projects this season, both sparking bidding wars and landing a series commitment and series order, respectively.

Interesting. If people give up on Agents of Shield for not having any big name characters show up, I'd imagine this would too.

Gotham, to me, is a much more interesting place.

Re: Warner Bros. is working on a Gotham PD inspired television series

Sounds like it could be decent to me but you never know with projects like this. It could also easily end up being a disaster and not to mention it's airing on Fox which could be bad. I like the fact that it's going for a Gordon origin story and throwing in some of the street level villains. It seems like a take of sorts on Gotham Central only Batman isn't active or even around yet. I think the only bad thing with a series like this is that it'll probably play out like another cop procedural with a villain thrown in now and again.

I still really wish one of the premium channels such as HBO or someone would do an actual big budget Batman serialized television show. That could potentially be amazing to use each season as a big arc from the comics or make up new story arcs. Too bad it'll probably never happen.

On Fox it will have a much bigger budget, at least initially. Thankfully Gotham escaped the clutches of the CW.

Re: Warner Bros. is working on a Gotham PD inspired television series

Wow, a series commitment. That's ballsy. Being that this is from the creator of The Mentalist, I think they may lean this more towards a procedural end. It will help WB TV sell the show better to overseas markets as well. This is probably being developed for Fall 2014.

Now comes the question, which available actor would make a good young Jim Gordon?

At least on FOX, (unlike the CW) we know Detective Gordon won't be shirtless half the time.

To make this appeal to a younger audience, I think they need to cast Gordon in his early to mid 30's. Maybe make him newly married with Barbara just born.

This sounds like too much of a "Law & Order" scenario. The only way I'd watch it is if Gary Oldman led the cast as Gordon.

He could play Harvey Bullock.

Harvey should be Elias Koteas

 It would be several seasons before people realize they are two different actors.

A possible Gotham Central TV series?

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...ticle&id=48083

"Gotham," a new drama based on the DC Comics world of Batman, has received a series commitment from Fox, as first reported by Deadline.

Bruno Heller, creator of "The Mentalist" and co-creator of "Rome," is set to write and executive produce. The series will depict the early stories of both Commissioner James Gordon and Gotham City's villains, though Deadline notes that Batman will not be a part of the series. "Gotham" will focus on Gordon as a detective in the Gotham City Police Department, before the character met Batman.

The news is notable both for the series commitment -- which Variety calls "not quite an on-air order but a hefty down payment" -- and the fact that the series is at Fox rather than The CW, which airs "Arrow" and has "The Flash" in development as a possible spinoff. The CW is 50 percent owned by DC parent company Time Warner. Deadline called "Gotham" one of the "two hottest drama projects this season," along with CBS sci-fi series "Extant."

One of DC's oldest and most recognizable characters, James Gordon was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, and first appeared in 1939's "Detective Comics" #27; also the first appearance of Batman. Gordon has been depicted multiple times in previous live-action projects, most recently by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy.
Gotham Central was a really good comic book series from 2003-2006 that focused solely on the GPD. The only problem with doing something like that with TV is that police procedurals are a dime-a-dozen on TV. This TV series won't have Batman, so will it really stick out from the rest?

Meh. Person of Interest is the only Gotham Central that I need.

I think the only way it would stand out is if some of the villains were showcased. The problem with that is no Batman around means a lot of the big name villains aren't around yet either most likely. I wonder if it's possible that Bruce will be shown at all (not as Batman) and possibly Alfred. Maybe throw in some other familiar names such as a young Harvey Dent.

It would be cool if this was actually set in 1939.

on fox
so it will be shown out of order and bounce around between time slots for a season and then probably be canned on a cliffhanger

"A 10-year-old Bruce Wayne is among the roles that are rumored to now being cast as series regulars on the upcoming Fox TV series "Gotham" which explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham City famous. Under development for over a year, the project has now been given a direct-to-series order by the network, which won an intense bidding war for the Warner Bros. Television rights to the show. Shooting on the pilot episode will get underway in March, 2014 and will center on Gotham City PD rookie homicide detective James Gordon who investigates the double murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne."

Re: Warner Bros. is working on a Gotham PD inspired television series

So is this going to be about organized crime and the corruption of the police department? Costumed villains started showing up as a response to Batman, not a catalyst. Wayne created Batman to fight organized crime because the system was completely corrupt and failing to stop criminality. So if this is Pre-Batman, will this simply be a show about a corrupt and incompetent police force? I'm struggling to figure out the angle here.

Re: Warner Bros. is working on a Gotham PD inspired television series

Being that this will be produced by the creator of The Mentalist, I am leaning towards this being a police procedural with Gotham City as the backdrop.

Granted I don't know much about Gordon's backstory as a detective, so I don't know if there can be any long-term story arcs with long term villains from Gotham City's past that can make it more serial.

I heard nothing but raves about that Gotham Central comic book series.
