Re: Best Twilight Zone episode?
Hard to choose, just one.
Of the ones listed, "The monsters are due on Maple Street" "The Eye of the Beholder" are the ones that stand out in my mind. The twist in the story kicked my ass when I was growing up.
But sheesh, so many are not there:
"A Game of Pool"
"In praise of Pip"
"Walking Distance"
"Nick of Time"
"Long Distance Call"
And those are just what I came up with without Coffee.....

Time Enough at Last...has always been my fav. and i look out for it when the marathon plays every year. Burgess Meredith was just spectacular in his glee turned consternation in the span of 30 minutes. plus, i am not a big fan, not even a casual fan, but this one always gets me.

I'm not sure I could choose just one. The Masks and It's a Good Life always leave an ache of dread in my chest when they end... and that's a good thing. Of those not on this list, Richard Matheson's Night Call is delightfully creepy (it's the one about the elderly woman whose phone keeps ringing at night).

The Monsters are Due on Maple Street - Of course it's so dated it's got whiskers, but the underlying horror is still very much relevant today. It's absolutely frightening how easily a sedate street can be turned into chaos just based on fear and paranoia.
And I also like the few that have happy endings, like when Dick York can read minds

Re: Best Twilight Zone episode?
Time Enough at Last has stuck with me since I first saw it nearly 20 years ago. It haunted me for weeks. I've never encountered anything else in the science fiction genre that effected me like that episode. It's amazing what can happen when science fiction television is written by great science fiction writers instead of tv writers.

Re: Best Twilight Zone episode?
The Twilight Zone is my favorite show of all time. Even though some are episodes are weaker than other I love them all. It was my first show that wasn't on Nickelodeon that I loved as a kid. I remember my favorite thing about the marathons was seeing episodes that I'd never seen before. Of course after the definitive editions I finally seen them all in their original order. Anybody who even kinda likes the show owes it to themselves to see the blurays or at least watch them in hd on Netflix.
In the poll, I went with Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up but, I love The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street just as much. There's just so many great ones: Where is Everybody, Perchance to Dream, Third from the Sun, The Hitch-Hiker, King Nine Will Not Return, The Howling Man, The Eye of the Beholder, A Most Unusual Camera, The Odyssey of Flight 33, Shadow Play, The Obselete Man, The Shelter, The Grave, The Midnight Sun, Little Girl Lost, Valley of the Shadow, A Kind of a Stopwatch, Living Doll, The 7th Is Made Up of Phantoms, Spur of the Moment and many others.

Re: Best Twilight Zone episode?
Not sure the title of the episode name, but its one of the late 80s ones where the lady is annoyed with her family life and she finds a watch in her garden that enables her to stop time. Things go great....right up until World War III kicks off. Great ending.

Re: Best Twilight Zone episode?
Anyway, I looked it up and the story was called "A Little Peace and Quiet" and was directed by Wes Craven.
Haven't seen the '85 shows since they aired, but I wonder how they hold up. Some of them were really well done (at least to my 7 year old self). The one that creeped me out the most was "Gramma" where a little kid has to stay with his witch grandmother while she is dying. And one where in the future, criminals get a mark burned into their forehead that makes everyone shun them.

I voted for The Invaders. Only episode in which no dialogue is spoken by the sole character (Agnes Moorehead in a great performance).
Seemed really ground-breaking for the time & still holds up well.
"Time Enough At Last" a close second.

Re: Best Twilight Zone episode?
Netflix had the whole series up for streaming (Except for season four, mysteriously.). They took down seasons 3 & 5 unceremoniously, they were the perfect length to watch on my lunch break, the bastards. Anyway, I might bat for "Eye of the Beholder," it's one of the all-time greatest twists. I think "Walking Distance" is actually surprisingly touching.

Another one I forgot to mention was Come Wander With Me. It's the third to last episode with the hauntingly beautiful folk song that tells the future.

So many to choose from but 5 Characters in search of a exit was a mind trip.
Another was the one where that guy made a bet if he could be silent and keep his mouth shut for a year.
I thought a thread with this subject this would have appeared years ago on this board.
