Reality TV is getting too rednecky even for me
So let's see what we got coming:
* Shelby Stanga from Ax Men got his own show
* A&E just started airing 'Hatfields & McCoys: White Lightning," about the two feuding families going into the moonshine business
* Now Tickle from 'Moonshiners' is getting his own show.
This is becoming a bit much.

I have no problems with shows of this type, though I would never watch one. It serves a segment of the population that is never shown on television except to be mocked. It punctures the false-reality bubble of normal television, where every show is basically a thinly-disguised version of either L.A. or New York culture.

God, Guns & Automobiles has been pretty good. I never liked Mancow very much. But his brother is fucking nuts.

It's like Honey Boo Boo, I wouldn't call that rednecky, as much as I'd call it white trashy.

Lets not forget all the ridiculous redneck/white trash repo shows on TruTV. They're so stereotypical it's like watching a cartoon!

I think the other shows are more hillbilly than rednecky. Demolition derby, blowing up cars, shooting cannons, torching your backyard to fake a UFO landing. That stuff is kinda rednecky.

The Shed was pretty awful. It was just too obvious an attempt to recreate Duck Dynasty, but maybe they'll become more natural as it goes on.

Well here's the thing. I think southerners have a wonderful sense of humor and self-deprecation. You see it in abundance on Duck Dynasty and a little on Ax Men, between Shelby and the Florida crew. But there does come a point where you are playing to a stereotype and almost putting on a minstrel show. And for whose benefit? So obnoxious northerners can laugh at you? That's what irks me about Tickle getting a show. I think he's just a buffoon.

I watched Here Comes Honey Boo Boo for the first time this weekend at my brother's house, and he made me change the channel once he found out I was watching it. I couldnt believe what I was watching, it was just fat people farting. How is that educational, and on TLC?

TLC hasn't been anything approaching "educational" in years, if it ever was (actually, "Medical Detectives" was outstanding, back in the day). But you have me intrigued. Farting fat people? As a confirmed fart aficionado, I might just have to check out this redneck trainwreck.
