Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
I normally don't give a shit about stuff like this cause it will work itself out eventually and its never really affected me... but If I miss Dexter this weekend, Im going to be super pissed at both TWC and CBS.
To the point that I would consider going back to Direct TV. |
Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
If a subscriber is smart, they call up TW, complain and get a deal. That's what I did last year for the Viacom dispute with DTV. I got over a $100 worth of credits for a few days w/o it. Take advantage of it.

Fortunately this blackout is happening during the summer when the only scripted show is Under the Dome along with their summer reality show Big Brother. So new programming is light on CBS right now.

Directv is supporting TWC. Even they also think that CBS are assholes for blacking out the Internet customers from using CBS.com. |

Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
I used to have DTV but when I moved I went with TWC for 6 years now. Havent really had any problems with them so I haven't been looking to change but something like this would "incentivize" me to switch. lol
Can you tell I just watched 2Guns. =) |

Fuck CBS. I'm pissed because now I can't watch DEXTER on SHOWTIME!!!!!! Damn you TWC! Damn you to hell!!!!

Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
CBS says I'll miss NCIS, The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, The NFL on CBS, The PGA Tour, SEC Football, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, Elementary, Hawaii Five-0, The Mentalist, The Good Wife, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Blue Bloods, David Letterman, 60 Minutes, Young and the Restless, Bold and the Beautiful and The Talk. I've heard of less than half of these shows and haven't seen David Letterman or 60 Minutes in years. I'm only bummed about missing People's Court on KCAL in L.A. Fortunately, it's in reruns now anyway.

Maybe CBS doesn't want to offend their NFL partners by having this drag into the NFL season, resulting in lower ratings for NFL games. It's always a calculated guess as to who has the most to lose. Will TWC lose because customers will switch to alternatives (satellite, OTA)? Or will CBS lose because affected viewers simply won't watch CBS and turn to something else? Both will occur, but it's a matter of how the scales will balance.
But this window for Time Warner isn't for very long, as NFL fans would probably be willing to jump at DirecTV's free Sunday Ticket deal. |
Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
Get an antenna, problem solved for CBS shows.
Showtime is messed up, it's already premium. I hope TWC wins this for some reason. |

Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
Actually, I just assume nobody watches CBS. It's a shit channel, but with football coming around it makes sense.
It's a bad situation and I hope CBS gets a ton of shit for it, overcharging for retransmission is horseshit. |

In other news, I've been wanting to use an antenna setup for years now. I've tried a few indoor antennas with no luck. I'm going to have to move to an external antenna high enough to get a good signal. But heck if I'm putting it on top of my house. That'd be so 60's. Instead I want to drop a pole (4 ft cement base) and hang the antenna off that. But how high do municipal regulations allow a homeowner to raise an antenna anyway? For some people, "Just do OTA," isn't a 5 minute matter, which explains why I haven't done it yet. :-( |

TWC is being a little hypocritical here since in the LA market they are forcing cable and satellite providers to pay a really large fee for TWC Sportsnet, which broadcasts the Lakers, and is a shit channel with no games. Same will happen in 2014 with the Dodgers. DTV customers in LA get charged an added RSN fee whether they watch the Lakers or not. Apparently the fee for this RSN is much larger than what CBS wants for its content. |
Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
 Sheesh, I wasn't trying to troll but I was being sarcastic with my posts.
CBS is the most popular channel on broadcast TV by a long shot (in terms of overall viewers) which is why this issue has come up, apparently there is a focus on the re-transmission fees being charged to Time Warner (and thus Bright House) for what is basically a free service. TWC feels they're in the right, and since Aereo got away with it they may be. Showtime is an unusual case because it is already a la carte premium cable. People pay additional for that channel specifically so it seems odd that it would be included in this situation. However, since CBS is sort of all-or-nothing right now it makes sense. Is Sportsnet a mandatory channel or is it optional? |

For Directv, in the LA market, if you have the Choice package or higher, TWC Sportsnet is included along with the $2 RSN Fee. I believe Time Warner is charging DTV $4 per month, but $2 is passed on to the customer whether they want it or not. I do agree about Showtime. Even though CBS owns it, people are already paying for it a la carte. So it shouldn't be part of this deal. |

Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
FCC asked to look into CBS blocking internet viewing. Looks like they may not have authority to have CBS change with current laws. I at least feel it is worth their time to look into it.

Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
I saw a report today that there's been a spike in piracy (I assume downloading the shows, but I guess it could be illegal streaming as well?). I guess folks are finding alternative ways to watch their shows.

Re: Time Warner DROPS CBS/Showtime (for now)
I cannot tell if this trend is being established to make us WANT to pay network by network or show by show for what we want to see or if the trend is happening and it will result in us wanting to pay as we go.
