FX picks up comedy starring Kelsey Grammer & Martin Lawrence (up to 100 episodes)

FX is quickly turning into the exclusive network partner of Lionsgate for its 10-90 sitcoms. The cable network has picked up a third series from Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury and Lionsgate TV, a buddy comedy starring Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence. The marquee project, written/executive produced by comedy veterans Bob Boyett and Robert Horn, features Grammer and Lawrence as Chicago lawyers from vastly different backgrounds who develop a partnership after they unexpectedly meet in court on the worst day of their lives, forcing each other to find the balance between the ethical and the unscrupulous in both their professional and personal lives. FX has picked up 10 episodes of the untitled series which, in success, will be followed by a 90-episode back order.
This is a similar arrangement like Anger Management and Saint George, starring George Lopez, which also got picked up in April.

10 episode 1st season, 90 episode 2nd season.
Probably a multi-cam sitcom. I like Kelsey Grammer as he was awesome on Boss, but I don't know about this.

It'll probably be just as lame as Back to You was or as unoriginal as Anger Management is.
I like Kelsey Grammer so I'll give it a shot but I don't have high hopes.

A lot of people in this forum don't like multi-cam sitcoms, which this show will probably be. Either it's with a laugh track or taped in front of a studio audience. I know it's cheap and the writing mostly sucks.

Will this go on their new FX comedy channel?

Don't know. They also greenlit another comedy back in April called "Saint George" starring George Lopez. It will also be a 10 episode 1st season and 90 episode 2nd season if it does well.
My guess is both will be on FX to give it exposure.

With Boyett involved, it doesn't sound promising.

Boss couldn't find an audience. I shudder at the thought that this might. Sounds like a pure paycheck project (gotta pay the bills after all).

They should just bring back Frasier.
Regardless, I'll check it out. F/X and Grammer have earned it.

Charlie Sheen, Martin Lawrence, Kelsey Grammer. How many celebrities who have had meltdowns can one network have?

It's the now common 10 / 90. How do you think Anger Management has (or is getting) 100 episodes?
Basically it's a forced agreement that if you like the show, you're putting it through to Syndication. On the flip side, you get 100 episodes of content at a cheaper rate than doing normal seasons and I believe a decent share of the syndication royalties.

The first episode of the series aired on June 28th, 2012. Season 1 ended on August 23rd (10 episodes). Season 2 started on January 17th, 2013. They're currently on episode 35 (tonight).
Why can't good shows have a pace like that.

I would like to see Kelsey on House of Cards or the Newsroom. He played his role in Boss really well, but the writing was horrible.

it's been pretty steady on Anger Management. Season 2 started on January 17th and it still has new episodes every Thursday at 9:30 (and some on Fox). Pulls a whopping .64m - 1.02m viewers per episode.

Because good shows require good writing, and you simply can't write that many good episodes at that pace. Either you're going to exhaust the writers until they're writing crap, have to hire a bunch of mediocre low-cost writers to simply keep the volume up, or both. It's like how soap operas have 5 new episodes a week, but the writing sucks.
