Re: Report: James Gandolfini DIES IN ITALY

Wow - that is eerie. I was actually thinking about him in The Mexican (about his character being gay - weird, random thought for sure) no more than four hours ago and now I just got the news alert on my phone about this. That's super weird!

Tragic loss because he definitely had so much more to give us.

At least people can't complain about his breathing anymore. Too soon?

I never watched Sopranos, but he was decent in a few films. I liked him best in True Romance.

edit: only 51?. Looking back he always seemed about 10 years older than he was.

He was talented, although I'd not seen anything he was in since the Sopranos.

Shocked to hear this, but he was 51, overweight, and probably didn't exercise, so a heart attack isn't surprising.

I take that back. I did see him in Zero Dark Thirty. He was good, but not terribly memorable in that role.

Sad news. I thought he was much older than he was too. Crap...he's only a couple of years older than me.

He looked and sounded awful in "Killing Them Softly," breathing heavy and it looked obvious that it wasn't part of the role. He reminded me of John Goodman right before he finally lost a lot of weight and got his health in check.

Can't believe these guys don't take advantage of their wealth to look after their own personal health...

then again, his body image was part of who he was in all of his characters

Re: Report: James Gandolfini DIES IN ITALY

Good initial write-up over at Hitfix here.

Includes a statement from David Chase:
"He was a genius. Anyone who saw him even in the smallest of his performances knows that," Chase said in a statement. "He is one of the greatest actors of this or any time. A great deal of that genius resided in those sad eyes. I remember telling him many times, 'You don't get it. You're like Mozart" There would be silence at the other end of the phone. For Deborah and Michael and Lilliana this is crushing. And it's bad for the rest of the world. He wasn't easy sometimes. But he was my partner, he was my brother in ways I can't explain and never will be able to explain."

Re: Report: James Gandolfini DIES IN ITALY

One of my favorite actors, and one of my top two or three favorite series of all-time.

It's a shame we didn't have him long enough for him to create another memorable character, which he would have most certainly done. Now, he'll always be Tony Soprano to us...but that's not a bad thing.

RIP James - you will be missed.

Re: Report: James Gandolfini DIES IN ITALY

Such a bummer - he's only 11 years older than me, and still had so much talent left to give.

Watch you're health, people!

No necessarily, but the odds of it being any good are slim. It would have to assume his character died on the series finale.

Very sad. He's someone who I enjoy pretty much in anything he does. Just saw him in Burt Wonderstone a few weeks back.

He was supposed to star in a 7 episode miniseries for HBO. It was greenlit in May. I guess his role will be recast or the project will be canned.

You used to discuss Sopranos episodes on here didn't you? I seem to remember many many years ago having Sopranos discussions and you were always in them
