Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Synopsis:

The BAU investigates a murder in which the killer exposes the victim's vocal cords to literally play them like a cello. Meanwhile, Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) discovers that the killer, Tobias, (Demore Barnes) murdered the victim as an attempt to gain Hannibal's attention but then makes an attempt to take Lecter's life. Will (Hugh Dancy) is driven to distraction by strange noises in his head and turns to Alana, in a romantic way, seeking peace and stability. Hannibal describes his relationship with Will to his therapist, Dr. Bedilia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson). Vladmimir Cubrt, Dan Fogler, guest.

Episode 8 of 13

Please note, tonight's episode starts at 10:15pm due to an extended episode of The Office.

I really really enjoy this show. Please, NBC, don't cancel it.

Nothing much to say. This is my new favorite show. That fight at the end was badass.

Re: Hannibal -- "Fromage" -- 10:15pm -- 5/16/13

Did anyone else experience distracting frame skipping during the episode?

Not sure if they were trying to speed up the show due to time constraints but it kept taking my focus off the content of the show. Great episode despite the technical glitch. Cool to see Tim Hunter's name on this one. Fond memories of Twin Peaks and River's Edge.

I'm not really sold on the Gillian Anderson character. Feels shoe horned. Maybe it's her preserved in formaldehyde appearance and delivery.

I don't know how this show is on network TV. It has got to be one of the most graphic shows I've seen on one of the big 4. If it does get canned, someone has got to pick it up. A&E really should be gunning for it. If they acquire it, do reairs of the first season of this and Bate's Motel all summer back to back and then air new episodes later in their seasons.

If NBC doesn't want it, then HBO or Showtime should go for it.

Has either channel ever picked up another network's show before? Basic cable, Netflix or Amazon seems more likely.

Showtime picked up Inside the NFL from HBO.

Starz picked up Torchwood.

HBO -sort of- picked up Politically Incorrect after ABC cancelled it, though the show was renamed and the format changed a bit.

HBO is a longshot, though, since I think most (all?) of their original programming is developed and produced in-house.

Hannibal got a 1.7 last night, partly because The Office ran long. But if I'm not mistaken, that's a series high. However the number would need to be adjusted taking away the 15 minutes.

Some on tvbythenumbers think its a 1.3 or 1.4.

I have also been amazed with the grisly content that NBC has allowed on Hannibal. It's easily the most disturbing show ever possibly seen on network television.

Re: Hannibal -- "Fromage" -- 10:15pm -- 5/16/13

That was a great freaking episode.

Demore Barnes from The Unit was a surprisingly really good villain. Loved Tobias' fight scene at the end with Hannibal. at Hannibal breaking Franklin's neck before the fight. Franklin was as good as dead anyways.

I was surprised that Tobias murdered those 2 cops right away.

I liked the sessions with Hannibal and Gillian Anderson's character. Interesting to see that Hannibal is really looking at Will as his friend.

and wow, that dude with the Cello stuck through his mouth and his throat ripped open was a really graphic scene.

Question, Will called himself "Special Agent Will Graham" I thought he wasn't officially an FBI agent. More of a FBI Profiler.

The scene with Will playing the man's throat was one of the most vivid, beautiful, and disgusting things I've ever seen on television. Not just network television.

It looks like FBI agent and FBI special agent are two different things:

https://www.fbijobs.gov/111.asp

"To become an FBI Special Agent you must be a U.S. citizen or a citizen of the Northern Mariana Islands. You must be at least 23 years of age to apply and have not reached 37 years of age upon your appointment as a Special Agent. Age waivers may be granted to preference eligible veterans who have surpassed their 37th birthday. You must possess a four-year degree from a college or university accredited by one of the regional or national institutional associations recognized by the United States Secretary of ducation. You must have at least three years of professional work experience. You must also possess a valid driver's license and be completely available for assignment anywhere in the FBI's jurisdiction."

This show makes me hungry. Wish I had the skills to cook up a meal the way Hannibal does.

Wound up being a 1.1 demo rating with 2.5m viewers.

Those ratings are good for AMC or A&E, not so much for NBC. Oddly I think it could move to cable and not lose a single viewer.

If they were smart they'd move it to USA, while it doesn't fit the brand it could solve the monotony problem they're starting to run into over there.

Since it has become my most anticipated show each week....I assume it will not continue after this run.

Oh and Gillian Anderson did a AMA on Reddit yesterday: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comment..._anderson_ama/

It's the geek out you'd expect and no real questions get answered.

Indeed. The art direction on this show is superb, like showing the strings being made. The sparse use of music is also very effective.

I wonder how thoroughly the FBI will process the crime scene at Hannibal's place. The statue he killed the guy with won't have any blood on it, and if they examine the head/neck of the other guy, they might find Hannibal's skin cells on him.

Probably not very. The suspect (who had just killed two cops) was dead on the scene, so they won't have to gather evidence to build a case. There's no reason Lecter's story wouldn't hold up. Any trace DNA evidence from Hannibal on the victim's neck wouldn't mean much; being a Doctor, Lecter would naturally check his pulse/neck, so that wouldn't set off any red flags.

Why wouldn't the statue have any blood on it?

Re: Hannibal -- "Fromage" -- 10:15pm -- 5/16/13

I just caught up with the last four eps of this show, and Hannibal has definitely turned a corner from a good show to a great one. The unsung hero of this show is the score. That constant droning score really envelops you with this sense of foreboding while watching the show.

This show is too good to go away.

That said, I did giggle a bit when Tobias turned into a ninja with that chord during the fight.

Indeed. That was unbelievably chilling. Last week's episode was the best of the season IMO but this one may have topped it. We're only 8 episodes in and it's firing on all cylinders.

Such neat stuff that people notice. Sometimes I can catch it but I usually miss it.

Franklin started to dress like Hannibal

Re: Hannibal -- "Fromage" -- 10:15pm -- 5/16/13

That is neat. Makes you wonder how much of that stuff is in earlier episodes that just went over my head.

I know this is set in present day, but it seemed odd to me to have Franklin mention MJ's death, simply because just before he said that, I started to think this show had a sort of timeless quality. Graham has a haircut that someone could have today, or could have had in 85. Hannibal's office sort of has a timeless uppercrust quality about it. I'm not saying this show is trying to be a period piece, but it just jumped out to me when someone mentioned something on the show that clearly dates it. And yes yes, I know Hannibal has a state of the art kitchen. Don't be a scumbag trying to poke holes in my view of the show!
