It's a big plot point. Theon said he didn't torch Winterfell and kill everyone there. They are trying to use the scenes with Theon to keep it fresh in everybody's mind....two big questions are a) who is Theon's captor, and b) if Theon didn't sack Winterfell, who did and why?

It's been sometime since I've watched season 2 but after Theon took Winterfell and ended up getting himself surrounded and whoever it was kept constantly playing a horn all the time...just like this guy who's torturing him does? Did they ever say who it was who was surrounding Theon at Winterfell? It makes me think they would also responsible for sacking the city as well.

One of Robb's allies' bastard son and his men sent to take back Winterfell. Can't remember which ally. Robb wanted to do it himself, but he had battles to fight and was talked out of it.

I always just figured it was him who was torturing Theon, but honestly couldn't give a fuck either way.

I've had certain book events spoiled for me since season 1, needless to say I was not amused. My hope is that the TV people made some changes, if only to mess with the book folk.

Well, GRRM was actually credited as the writer for the last episode, so if there's anyone who'd be an authority to change certain events from the book, it'd be him. :)

Cool, thanks, didn't know that. There's been enough questions and material in spoiler tags for this show, so I don't really see the big deal about this in particular being in spoiler tags here since it was Josh's personal guess at how things played out differently. Oh well.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't drop any any huge spoilers. Just the name of Theon's torturer and who he's aligned with (which sort of puts it in spoiler territory). Fairly minor stuff, though there are implications to knowing his identity and agenda. At any rate, I don't see the series sitting on this stuff much longer.

The problem with putting this stuff in a spoiler thread... for someone who just wants a bit of minor information... is that the spoiler threads are filled with bigger spoilers.

For some reason it seems like Theon's storyline is driving people nuts. Everywhere, not just here. I'm thinking, my God, it's like three minutes per episode, and you watched a guy get his dick cut off and you're bored with that storyline?

Yes. Yes I am. It's gone from Torture Porn to Torture/Porn, but that's not a huge improvement.

There's only two ways torture scenes would be interesting to me :
1) If I had a rooting interest in the torture victim's well-being (James Bond in Casino Royale, Mel Gibson in just about every movie pre-arrest
2) if I were actively pulling for the torturers because the info being obtained was vitally important and/or the torture victim was someone so loathesome I wanted it for him (Zero Dark Thirty)
3) Jack Bauer -- He's 50% 1) and 50% 2).

This is neither and it's a slog to watch. I don't need to see him getting tortured every week to know that his character is still tied to a giant X in a musterious dungeon and getting tortured every week.

Why waste even three minutes a week on a storyline that's going nowhere and not advancing at all. Now he doesn't have a pinkie or a penis, great. I can't really imagine getting told that later couldn't have sufficed.

And I had to laugh that my wife, who read book 3 and is fighting every urge to spoil things for me, chose the beginning of this week's Theon scene to run out of the room and call for me to "let her know when it's over". She's only done that once before : when Jamie struck up a conversation with Locke. I'm getting the distinct feeling whenever she runs from the room, something awful is about to happen. :)

Some random thoughts about the current ep.

- Was I the only one that wanted Jon to say "you know nothing Ygritte" during the windmill scene?
- I don't see how Theon is a ladies man/has a "Podrick" ;)? His earlier scene(s) with Roz and I think Tyrion made me think the opposite. Certainly not something that would be reach the ears of his torturer. Sloppy writing to justify his punishment.
- As much as I enjoyed the porn dialogue for Theon's scene, I'm starting to join the haters of his subplot. I think I would rather watch Shireen teach the Onion Knight to read.
- They do seem to be doing their best to turn Jamie into being the likable Lannister.
- Is there still a war going on? There's been 1 marriage and like 5 marriage arrangements since Robb marched south from Winterfell.

And all this talk about Winterfell's razing now has me thinking, what happened to the other ironborn? Not just the men that Theon was with but the army his sister was leading.

IMOH there is no true Queen or even King for that matter. Robert Baratheon, the Mad Kings descendants, Daney, Joffery, etc., became or may become king or queen by force. Then , when they’re on the throne they proclaim that they are the “true” King/Queen… Big Woop!

Even Stannis, who was next in line as Robert’s brother, wasn’t simply declared King he had to fight for it (and lost round 1).

Don’t you see? The true ruler is simply the one with the most power or the best army. This is all just a game, a Game of Thrones.

This is the right answer! It's a Game of Thrones. That would also be a good name for a book.

Because this is filmed largely in Europe, they were also able to procure real dead children for Theon to burn.
