Dany is a badass. That's why she didn't compromise. She has dragons.

I thought the episode was decent. They have to jump around to all the different storylines so it seems disjointed sometimes.

Hypothetically speaking, couldn't Joffrey just have Tywin's head chopped off if he mouths off like that?

sure, if he actually wasn't a cowardly dipshit. And if he thought he could order it and have the kingsguard get to him before tywin took 2 steps and beat the tar out of him.

So why doesn't Tywin just snap his neck and assume the throne? Why all the pussyfooting?

There was a very revealing moment during Tywin's entrance to the throne room. He gets half way in with two Kingsguard right on his heels. He pauses. then resumes walking and the kingsguard stay put.

It was a subtle little reminder to Joffery that Tywin is in charge, as the kingsguard should have never let anyone that close to Joffery alone.

Because Tywin has absolutely no legitimate claim to the throne?

Becayse Tywin would be guilty of the most heinous crime in Westeros?

Did Robert Baratheon? Did the Mad King? I'm a little unclear on the back story but it sounds like Dany is the true Queen, no? Isn't it kind of a free for all period?

well, he most likely doesn't want it. He realizes he has the power anyway, and without all the problems that come from being king.

And like tommy says, you can't just kill the king because he's an asshole. (well, unless you are jaime)

somewhat of a wild period, but even robert had targaryen blood in his past.

The Mad King was Dany's father. Her house was overthrown by rite of combat so a new Dynasty began, and Robert Baratheon was the most directly related Targaryan

I don't get the claims to the throne discussion. Before the Targaryens came there was no Iron Throne, it was seven kingdoms. The only "rightful" claim would be a Targaryen. But that doesn't mean that no one else can take over.

Has this actually been rumored? I know the show refers to the incest rumor frequently by the public, but I don't recall speculation outside of Ned Stark's investigation about Joffrey not being Robert's son.

In the premier of season 2 Stannis writes up a letter explaining Joffrey's parentage, making Stannis the rightful heir. He sends multiple copies of the letter to every house in Westeros.

I'm sure their boat lacked any obvious banners revealing the allegiance to Stannis, but even so...

Joffrey is not of age so he doesn't really have the power of the king yet, his mother was queen regent, and I don't recall if Tywin is now regent of just has the power in the family.

My favorite show. Loved how they are slowly but surely raising the danger level of the dragons. They are very large dog sized now and if they were real would be super intimidating.

That said I do have to say that they are starting to go a bit too far with:

1. Theon torture
2. Use of real dead animals obtained legally from a butcher or not.

I can't imagine so much time spent going back and forth to his predicament only to have the plot thread drop off with his anonymous death. There must be somewhere this is leading that impacts other parts of the overall story. I have no idea what, but there is far too much series time invested to have it lead to "he was anonymously tortured, and then he died."

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" -- 5/12/13

Thought it was a fine episode.

All three of the scenes in King's Landing were phenomenal, and Jamie is right on the verge of redeeming himself. Really, the Lanasters have completely stolen the show, as every scene they are in is gold. Dany, as always, is an utter badass, and I kind of think Arya is too. I'm also mostly liking the John Snow arc, but as he said in the episode, that group doesn't feel like a real threat to anybody in the 7 kingdoms.

The snow zombies kind of remind me of the smoke monster in Lost. They are super interesting and threatening, but they seem to be forgotten for extended periods or at best mentioned in passing.

The storylines that feel small to me are Theon and Stannis. I just don't give a fuck about either of them. They are not the least bit interesting or likeable.

Rob just barely meets the threshold of being interesting, and I don't really care what happens to Bran or Sansa either.

Dany sacking cities to release the slaves just rings so hollow to me, So you destroy these cities to free thousands of slaves...and then what? How do the slaves find work, find food? Seems like Dany is not really thinking of the after effects of her 'generosity'

It's simple: Dany was sold to Drago. Now she has the opportunity to free others who have been sold and potentially raise an army in the process. She's focused on that and that alone. She wants to change the world, not walk past a city full of slaves because of logistical issues.

all the work and food finding is already being done by slaves. the slaves would just lose the guys who beat them

She sends the slaves into the desert and they eat the sand which is there. Maybe I should have spoilered that.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I know why they're sort of dragging this out and not revealing who Theon's captor is. And it does tie into some other things that are going on.

This is sort of a divergence from the books and there's a running plot thread from season two that they've been holding really close to their vests. I expect all of this to be revealed by the end of the season. There's a mystery from season two that a lot of people haven't really picked up on... I've only seen it mentioned once here recently.
