She told Stanis she needs someone else with his blood. Since Gendry's a baratheon, it might go well for him for about 3 and half, maybe 4 minutes

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Climb" -- 5/5/13

The kissing at the top of the wall was a bit cheesy to me. Enjoyed Tywin and the old lady sparring back and forth. Joffrey killing Ros was a shock to me, since it was him doing the killing directly. Didn't expect that, and definitely adds another notch as far as reasons to hate him. Also liked Arya practicing.

Face. Tits. Balls.

I like seeing Theon get tortured; I've read book spoilers on my own to know what the deal is with that, but if I was just watching the show I still wouldn't have any idea who and why that's happening.

I could live without the Theon stuff -- frankly it's much more effective how it's told about rather than SHOWN in the books and really, are we just going to get 5 mins or so of Theon torture in every other episode for the next season or two?

"we can just kill them" lol

++++++

It brings nothing to the show.

I really do like Ygritte and her blunt manner w/ Jon Snow.

Nothing good seems to happen to the Stark girls, but at least Tyrion will probably look out for Sansa, I'm assuming w/ the help of Shae.

I agree that they need to move this plot line along at a quicker clip. Non-book reader confusion on what the hell is going on and why will likely turn to annoyance soon, if it hasn't already.

Theon torture is terrible and boring. I cringe for the wrong reason every time they cut to Theon's scene. Silver lining is that it is a potty break for me.

All the other scenes are great though. Really like Robb apologizing to his uncle for his sins. Varys and Baelish were amazing. I just love the way they did Littlefinger, he is so smooth, creepy, and conniving all at the same time.

I'd rather see Dany sailing in a boat for 5 minutes than see Theon get tortured.

Is it wrong that I think
Spoiler:
Ramsay
is the villain and Theon the...not hero...but victim?
Spoiler:
Ramsay
is a sadistic bastard.

Happy?

Do non book readers know who he is yet? You may want to spoiler tag that.

Same, I'd have cut the rope on those two as well.

Still, loved the episode once again.

I would've given 'Gareth' an ass-kicking when I got to the top...

No Daenerys was a letdown, but I don't mind the Theon stuff.

Poor Ros. What a shitty way to go.

Given the way the episode ended, Ros' death in particular, that part on the Wall was fine with me.

Am I the only book reader who wondered if mysterious torturer's false confession to Theon was written to momentarily make all the book readers go "Hey, that's not who he really is!"

There also was a huge visual clue in the episode to the torturers identity, but I'm guessing a lot of people would still miss it since it was in the background of a scene. I'll link to the youtube video of the scene in particular, and include it in spoilers just in case you want the show to directly spell it out to you in a later episode:

Especially pay attention from 0:30 to 0:45.

Yup, that was his boat and her chance of leaving. It was hard to tell but the sail had a mockingbird on it (his sigil). Also double whammy with marrying Tyrion.

It seems even though there are hints as to who is torturing Theon, non-book readers don't really care.

It's not just hints. It's been overt, even going back to season 2 in talking about retaking Winterfell from Theon. I know non-book-readers that have figured it out. It's just a matter of taking the time to put the pieces together yourself instead of waiting for the show to just have him name himself.

They did a great job in reaffirming that it isn't a Karstark getting revenge for Rickard's beheading as some people may have mistakenly assumed, though it should have been obvious since that happened after the torture had begun.

I can understand their frustration that it seems like the torture scenes are just wasted scenes, without future knowledge of where these scenes might end up.

That's the thing, you can't compare this to the books because this isn't actively shown in the books. It's referred to later, but it still happened so in this medium it needs to be shown as it's happening.

People need to take a breath before they assume that some scenes are "pointless" or "wasted" or "pee-break". This show has 10 hours a year to adapt an epic series. They're not going to make a habit of wasting time.

If they were, dear book readers, then you'd be able to nod your head approvingly when I say that I'm thrilled that last night they (minor-to-not-really a spoiler)
Spoiler:
obviously merged Gendry with Edric Storm. No point in introducing a new character and actor just to set aside a popular one for adherence to the books. They have the same claim to what Melisandre wants to do, so might as well. It's not like Gendry did anything (beyond a cameo with a character who wouldn't know him anyway, could have been anyone in that moment) after this point in the published books.

Guess Ros should have stayed in Winterfell.

If someone has really paid attention, not just to the words, but banners/sigils etc, they would be about 95% sure who that is.

I agree but I know people only following the show don't want to read that stuff. I read SoS over 10 years ago, so no worries for me.
