Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
Did anyone catch the series premiere of this 6-episode (first season) show on Monday night??
It's getting great reviews nearly across the board from TV critics. |
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
I DVR'd it last night and watched it earlier tonight. I liked it and I'm curious to see where it goes especially since there is a lot of mystery aspect to it.

Bummed that I don't have Sundance in HD. Heard great things about this.

re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
Also don't have Sundance in HD and I won't watch a shitty SD feed.
It looks like the 1st episode is re-airing on AMC. I like how they are promoting this as "From the Producers of Breaking Bad" What does that even really mean? On a creative end it doesn't mean squat. |
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
I broke down and watched it in standard definition.
Well worth it. Didn't even mind the shitty picture quality. It does appear to be a slow burn though. |

Agreed- we liked it as well. And, as far as the SD goes, it wasn't awful- wasn't as bad as I was expecting......
I guess I was used to it. |
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
Watched it last night.
FUCKING loved it. Good lord, what a great show. |
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
the series premiere (just the first hour, not the second ep) airs on AMC HD right after Mad Men this evening.
|
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
I watched it on AMC last night and really enjoyed it. I might buy the season pass on Amazon ($9.99 for HD or SD).

re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
The premise of the show is very interesting and the cast looked really solid from what I saw of the first episode.

re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
Sundance Channel has renewed its first wholly owned original scripted series Rectify for a second season. The 10-episode order comes on the heels of Rectify‘s premiere last week. The series will end its freshman season on May 10 and then return for Season 2 in 2014. Rectify, about a man (Aden Young) released from prison after spending nearly two decades on death row, is created and written by Ray McKinnon and executive produced by Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein. “We feel as though this story has tapped into something truly unique, with both critics and audiences using their platforms to share such strong, personal reactions to this very distinctive TV series,” said Sundance’s President and General Manager Sarah Barnett. Sundance and parent AMC Networks put a lot of muscle behind the launch of Rectify, putting the series on Sundance On Demand ahead of the premiere and getting the its episodes to encore behind Mad Men on sibling AMC. Because Sundance is not rated by Nielsen, there is no ratings information on the Rectify premiere. |
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
Would be great if the remaining episodes made their way to AMC. Perhaps as an encore later this year to drum up more interest for S2. Wishful thinking I know...

re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
Now Amazon is taking pre-orders for the DVD with a release date of June 18th. Pretty quick turn around.
|
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
FYI, Dish customers, there is a free Sundance preview for the next few weeks. Can watch the next few episodes of Rectify in HD. Also, Sundance is re-airing the first 4 episodes this Saturday.

re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
After reading that this was an excellent show, I watched episodes 1-5 yesterday (On-Demand).
Wow! This is my kind of show. Serial drama, small southern town, slow pace, deep characters, amazing dialog and a plot that twists and turns. Tonight is the season finale (6 Episodes). I am hooked. |

Enjoyed it quite a bit, but didn't realize it was just a six episode run. We were disappointed when we went to watch episode 7 to find there wasn't any more..... |
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
AMC is having a Rectify marathon on 7/14, all 6 episodes. 9am-3pm ET. AMC's Schedule for 7/14.
|
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
Would be great if they also do this with Top of the Lake.

Maybe with this, House of Cards, Arrested Development, and the upcoming Orange is the new black you may want to consider it now. ;) |
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
Watched the marathon this past Sunday. Great show, although a little on the slow side.
Loved Daniel's "banter" with his mother. Thought the Wal*Mart epside was maybe my favorite. Abigail Spencer makes me want to take up smoking. That last episode is a heart breaker. Will definitely tune in for season 2. |
re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
I bought the dvd and rampaged through it in two days. Its the most enthralling boring show I've seen in a long time. I'm definitely in for season 2.

re: Rectify (Sundance) -- Series Discussion Thread
I DVR'd the AMC marathon and I've watched 1-5 so far. Really great show. I recognize Tawny from "Parades End" with Benedict Cumberbatch.

It's a heavy, heavy show with dark emotional themes. I wouldn't binge watch it like a lighter show.

I'm going to rewatch some of the last few episodes from last season to refresh my memory before season 2 starts.

Rectify (Sundance) - Season 2 Thread - 6/19/14

Season one of "Rectify" depicted the first week in the life of Daniel Holden (Aden Young) following his release from death row to a world he no longer understood, to build a life he may not be allowed to keep. As Daniel tried to find a place in his reconfigured family and within a community deeply divided about his return, his presence reignited old wounds and introduced unexpected complications for those closest to him. In season two we find Daniel becoming an active participant in his life, making decisions and thinking about the future as he struggles to find meaning in a dangerous and unpredictable world. It will also delve into the lives changed by Daniel's return and the ripple effect his actions have on the people around him. "Rectify" debuted in 2013 to much critical acclaim and is SundanceTV's first wholly-owned scripted production. Included on over 35 year-end "best of" lists, including Time, TV Guide, and A.V. Club, season one was heralded by The Daily Beast as "a breathtaking work of immense beauty and a thought-provoking meditation on the nature of crime and punishment, of identity and solitude, of guilt and absolution. It is, quite simply, the best new show of 2013." Mary McNamara of the Los Angeles Times said "'Rectify' is a revelation that sets a new standard," while Matt Roush of TV Guide gave the series a "10 out of 10," commenting that 'Rectify' is "impeccably written and acted, quietly suspenseful and achingly poignant." Gran Via's Mark Johnson (Rain Man, "Breaking Bad") and Melissa Bernstein ("Breaking Bad", "Halt and Catch Fire") are executive producers. Robin Sweet (The Reluctant Fundamentalist) is a Producer, Director of Photography is Paul Sommers ("The Vampire Diaries"), Production Designer is Hugh D.G. Moody ("The Glades") and Costume Designer is Carol Cutshall ("One Tree Hill"). Starring are: Aden Young (Killer Elite, The Tree) as Daniel, Abigail Spencer ("Burning Love", Oz: The Great & Powerful) as Daniel's sister Amantha, J. Smith-Cameron ("True Blood") as Daniel's mother Janet, Luke Kirby (Take This Waltz, Mania Days) as Daniel's lawyer Jon Stern, Clayne Crawford ("24," "Justified") as Daniel's stepbrother Ted Jr., Adelaide Clemens ("Parade's End," The Great Gatsby) as Ted Jr.'s wife Tawney, Bruce McKinnon (The Way Home) as Daniel's stepfather Ted Sr., and Jake Austin Walker (The Chaperone) as Daniel's half- brother Jared. Re: Rectify (SundanceTV) - Season 2 Thread - 6/19/14
Glad to see the episode order was bumped up. The first season was 6 (I think).
|
Re: Rectify (SundanceTV) - Season 2 Thread - 6/19/14
I guess I hadn't realized that directv only has sundance in SD, not HD. I had downloaded last season in hd, you can imagine my disappointment watching this one in blurry, fuzzy sd. I think I'll go back to finding dl's.
Otherwise, good start. I need to probably rewatch the last episode of S1 to get refresh my memory. I'm hoping they don't leave him in a coma past next week, that will get old quickly. |
Re: Rectify (SundanceTV) - Season 2 Thread - 6/19/14
Yea. What the fuck is with Sundance that it doesn't air in HD. OnDemand has it in HD, so why not air it that way? Annoying.

Re: Rectify (SundanceTV) - Season 2 Thread - 6/19/14
Who was the guy with glasses who came to the hospital and talked with Amantha? He brought a present for Daniel.
