There was a scene in ASOS where Arya and Gendry are wrestling and they end up tumbling and rolling around on the ground together that could provide some major fuel for shippers.

God I hope so. I would love to do it, but I don't think I have any non-spoiler/reader friends to invite to experience that for myself.

People are going to start wondering when their buddies start breaking out the camera equipment.

I would almost agree. There are a lot of people at TWoP predicting that Robb will die, even why, just not when or how exactly. I've not seen one person predict Joffrey's death. At least nobody thinking it's going to happen anytime soon, and not come at the hands of someone like Robb or Danerys.

Joffrey's death was shocking due to the fact that it didn't occur as much as a villain getting the come uppance in a crowd pleasing fashion than just a simple case of someone not knowing the heimlich (sp?) maneuver. Also, having it occur in the second or possibly first ep. of next season would be the major shock.
I will be interested to see if some viewers drop out altogether after the Red Wedding, but if they stuck around after Eddard's death, they most likely have an idea to expect the unexpected.

His death was more of a shock to me than that of Cat and Robb, but most likely because I had read about the latter two earlier. The only shock I got from them was the brutality of it all, and UnCat showing up was a pretty big WTF? moment for me.

It'll be interesting to see how this is adapted for the show. Do you plant the seeds of a poisoning in advance or just have him "choke" and then come back an episode or two later and reveal the mystery of who did it.
Then again, I don't remember how quickly in the books it was identified as poison, but I do know that Tyrion was pretty much instantly accused. I may need to re-read that chapter.

I'm not suggesting they won't do the same thing, I just wonder how much of a shock it will be to the viewer based on the information they give ahead of time.

Shippers will have a field day with this (Arya/Gendry)
She obviously has family on her mind in this episode. But when she tells Gendry "I can be your family," it sounds like she might mean something very different – even if she herself barely realizes it yet.
When I first read that scene, it really got to me. I always knew that Arya and Gendry were going to take separate paths, but when you actually see it. . . I was really getting on well with Joe [Dempsie], and it was just like "Oh, this is going to end now." Then you go in do it. At first I read it as "You can come to Winterfell, I'll show you how everything goes, and you can come and sit at the table with us." I thought it would be a bit like Theon. But when I was doing the scene, [director] Alex Graves said "When you say that last line, 'I can be your family,' say it like 'I love you.'" And that's the take that they used. On the day, we didn't cut in between. We kept going, and going, and going again, which I really liked; otherwise, you get out of it and you have to try and build yourself back up to that point again. Sometimes I was really crying, and then we'd pull it back. I don't know how many we did, but the last one we did…We settled on the one when I said it like "I love you," and it really works.
